ABOUT THE POSITION
The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, Trade Tech & Community Learning campus or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, online or off campus and is subject to change as needed. Part-time faculty positions are as needed positions and do not accrue rights to tenure. Part-time faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work or career development, or the equivalent,
AND
EOPS counselors hired after October 24, 1987, shall:
(1) Have completed a minimum of nine semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages
OR
(2) Have completed six semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in
a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages
AND
In addition, an EOPS counselor hired after October 24, 1987, shall have two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Community college counseling experience in EOPS, CalWORKs, and Foster Youth.
- Recent professional experience in helping students to deal with personal/psychological problems.
- Evidence of previous teaching experience, especially at the community college level.
- Evidence of an ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Evidence of an ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of academic skills.
- Evidence of an ability to work with computers, multimedia, and other technologies that are utilized in providing high-quality instruction.
- Evidence of an ability to conduct various academic, career and job related workshops and presentations.
- Evidence of an ability to use and to interpret various career assessments.
- Commitment to the Mission and Strategic Objectives of the two-year college.
