The CalWorks department of the Long Beach Community College District is seeking highly-qualified individuals to be our CalWorks Program Student Advisor! These incumbents will provide technical and individualized intake, coordination, tracking and support services for assigned Program student/participant. We are looking for someone who has experience ensuring that federal, state, local and District minimum work hour, accountability, reporting, retention and other program-specific requirements. AT-A-GLANCE POSITION INFORMATION
• Type of position: Full time (40 hours/week)
• Position Status: Permanent
• Schedule: Monday-Friday; May include evening hours to support events
• Location: Will support both campuses, but could be located at either the Trades, Technology, or Liberal Arts Campus (LAC)
• Salary: Range 29, $5,022.10- $6,175.77 Monthly
• Eligibility list: Will be valid for 12 months once approved or ratified by the Personnel Commission. We reserve the right to use the established eligibility list for vacancies (permanent and temporary) in this classification as well as related classifications.
• Advanced salary placement: Generally, new employees start at the first step on the salary schedule. Advanced salary placement may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Duties
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general supervision, provides technical and individualized intake, coordination, tracking and support services for assigned Program student/participants; maintains, updates and submits highly detailed, confidential case notes, reports, records and other program documentation; provides administrative and technical support in designated program areas; and performs related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
CalWORKS Program Student Advisors perform difficult and responsible intake, orientation, service provision and monitoring activities for assigned CalWORKS student/participants. This work is performed to ensure that federal, state, local and District minimum work hour, accountability, reporting, retention and other program-specific requirements are successfully met. Incumbents in this position must be able to effectively work with student/participants from diverse socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds who often have one or more educational, psychological, social, economic or other barriers to successful program participation.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:
Education, Training and Experience:
Associate's degree in social sciences or a closely related field; and at least two (2) years of progressively responsible case management/coordination experience for a social, educational or public service program, preferably working with participants with diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
May require a valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy.
Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.
