This adjunct role involves teaching a graduate-level course in audiology and potentially engaging in clinical and research activities related to the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and teach a graduate-level course in audiology, integrating current research and practices while ensuring that the course curriculum aligns with neurodiverse frameworks and reflects the impact of hearing on speech and language development, including aural rehabilitation. In addition, the course would incorporate content that addresses cultural and linguistic diversity, especially as it pertains to the d/Deaf and hard of hearing communities. This should include fostering the recognition and use of all forms of communication (verbal and nonverbal), tailored to individual preferences and needs, in compliance with the 2023 Revisions to CAA Standards for Accreditation.
- Work closely with the program director to provide vital information and insights for accreditation reporting. Offer expertise in academic and clinical curriculum development related to audiology and the d/Deaf community, ensuring adherence to updated accreditation standards.
- A PhD or PhD candidacy in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or a closely related field, with a focus on speech, language, and communication in the Deaf community.
- Current Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from ASHA.
- Demonstrated expertise in the assessment and treatment of individuals from hard of hearing and d/Deaf populations, with specific experience and understanding of Deaf culture and community needs.
- A record of effective teaching at the graduate level in speech pathology.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to fostering an inclusive and engaging educational environment.
- A dedication to advancing the field through neurodiversity-informed, clinically relevant teaching and learning practices, preparing pre-service clinicians for diverse professional challenges.
