Principal Responsibilities
The Central Service Technology Program Instructor provides quality learning opportunities that assist students in meeting their educational goals and career aspirations in the Central Service Technology program, including development and socialization of values and behaviors expected of those who fulfill the role of a Central Service technician. This individual has responsibility for formulating program outcomes and designing a curriculum that reflects contemporary health care trends and prepares central sterile processing graduates to successfully complete the credentialing exam and function effectively in the health care environment.

This individual has responsibility for formulating program outcomes and designing a curriculum that reflects contemporary health care trends and prepares central sterile processing graduates to successfully complete the credentialing exam and function effectively in the health care environment.
Essential Duties include
- Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills

- Show commitment to providing quality customer service and an uncompromising commitment to student learning through the college’s mission, vision, values and the delivery of instruction
- Willingness to learn the continuing and community education concepts, processes and practices of Long Island University
- Identify problems, creating innovative solutions and managing projects
- Deal effectively, cooperatively and tactfully with students, business/industry, government and community representatives/citizens, faculty, staff, administrators
- Maintain accurate and appropriate student, instructor, and course, and program documentation
- Interact with clinical sites to ensure that policies and procedures specific to the sites are being followed
- Maintain mastery and currency in the fields of central sterile processing and surgical technology to ensure continuity between course instruction and evidence-based practices.
- Prepare and deliver lesson plans to students in online learning platform as well as at designated instructional location(s)
- Conduct research and surveys to determine current effectiveness and future needs; prepare reports on these
- Willingness to work nights/weekends as needed and as duties require
- Assist in recruiting and registering students
- Work cooperatively with all directors and staff
- Take part in applicable skills training
- Pursue a development plan that provides for personal and professional growth through participation in professional and community activities
- Assist with the administration of training programs in accordance with the School of Professional Studies and LIU policies, internal audit procedures, rules, and regulations
- Assist in the development, delivery and maintenance of programs and strategic partnerships
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director, Director and Dean of the School of Professional Studies
Associate’s degree in a health-related field from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution
Current certification as a
- Central Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) issued by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution Inc OR
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) issued by The Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) [formerly the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM)]
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a health-related field from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution
- Certified Surgical Technologist credentialed by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
- Minimum of one (1) academic year of teaching experience, preferably at the community college level
- Familiarity with a course management system such as BrightSpace.
