Job Purpose

The Manager, Corporate Development will be responsible for leading activities related to sourcing, evaluating, and negotiating project acquisitions for Longroad. This role will be responsible for executing on the company’s acquisition strategy within various markets in close coordination with the Development, Origination, and Project Financing teams. Work will include managing and reporting on status of acquisition prospects, coordinating inbound and outbound outreach on acquisition opportunities with developers, brokers and investment banks, and leading due diligence on renewable energy assets and companies. Due diligence for renewable project and portfolio opportunities will include review of land agreements, local, state and federal permits and approvals, local and state tax agreements, real estate surveys and title work, and other development work required prior to construction start and financing. The position requires working extensively with internal subject matter experts to evaluate origination, legal, interconnection, resource, environmental and permitting, construction planning, engineering, and finance status of renewable projects and portfolios, and to define a strategy for outstanding development tasks. You will work closely with Longroad leadership, to maintain and update the company’s acquisition strategy and plans in each market across the US. In addition to project and portfolio acquisitions, you will also evaluate broader partnerships for Longroad, including evaluation of new technologies and market opportunities. You will lead presentations to Longroad’s Investment Committee where project capital allocation decisions are made.

Responsibilities :

  • Work with senior management to achieve company goals by evaluating project pipeline, assessing acquisition project viability / economics and providing recommendations for projects that can supplement / reinforce pipeline.
  • Coordinate with our environmental / permitting team for permitting requirements such as wildlife and impact studies. Manage outside consultants’ budgets and scope, work with local and state permitting agencies to ensure compliance with permitting requirements.
  • Work with resource and GIS teams to perform a thorough site assessment for wind, solar, and storage projects. This includes collection and evaluation of wind and solar data, project layouts, geographical analysis and turbine design and siting recommendations.
  • Assist origination team with analyzing off-take, developing revenue plans and submissions to corporate, utilities and municipal requests for proposals for acquisition projects / opportunities.
  • Work with the financial and commercial team to create and manage the financial model, project or portfolio.
  • Partner with the engineering and construction teams to review project design, procurement, and construction schedule, price, and risk.
  • Assist in negotiation of asset and membership interest purchase agreements.
  • Manage M&A pipeline to ensure team is coordinated and responsive to opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years managing multiple development projects in a planning environmental, or legal or construction capacity. Projects should be in power generation, utilities, or real estate development.
  • Possess subject matter expertise in a business function related to the development process.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to create forms, letters and fundamental spreadsheets using MS Word and Excel, create presentations in Power Point and perform internet-based research.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work in a team and independently.
  • Safe driving record, valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to walk over undeveloped land unassisted, travel unassisted and sit at a computer for long periods of time.
  • 20% travel may be required during business hours in support of the position responsibilities.
  • Desired / Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience leading development of renewable energy projects from early stage through financial closing and construction is preferred.
  • Experience evaluating renewable project acquisition opportunities and / or negotiating purchase and sale agreements is preferred.
  • Experience leading or managing others.
  • Financial analysis and budgeting skills, formal project management training and skills or policy analysis experience.
