Job Description:
Longwood University invites applications for the Degree Completion Advisor and Records Specialist (FA339) position in the Office of the Registrar. This position will support degree completion functions within the Office of the Registrar to support the mission of Longwood University and the strategic initiatives to increase retention and graduation rates. The Degree Completion Advisor and Records Specialist is responsible for degree completion audits, final degree certification, transfer evaluations, low-level advising, and assisting with commencement preparation as assigned. This position will be one of the School Certifying Officials for veterans education benefits for the undergraduate population. This position also assists with customer service for walk-in, email, chat, and telephone traffic, and assists the University Registrar and Associate Registrars as needed.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Serve as primary Degree Completion Advisor for large cohort of majors and all that entails (degree applications, substitutions, monitor of 125% state regulation, final certification of degrees for cohort, communicate with students, faculty and department chairs, etc.).
- Advocate on behalf of students with faculty to obtain appropriate substitutions/waivers to facilitate efficient and timely degree completion.
- Serve as one of the School Certifying Officials for students using veterans education benefits, to include, but not limited to, assistant with needed paperwork and certifying student enrollments. Ensure compliance with all veterans education benefits regulations.
- Transfer credit evaluation. Identify and gain faculty approval for transfer credit substitutions/waiver opportunities to facilitate efficient and timely degree completion and assist the university in being transfer friendly.
- Offer superior customer service to all campus constituents via phone, in-person, email or chat to ensure their needs are met.
- Ensure testing of systems is completed timely and by deadlines given by the Associate Registrar of Technology
- Assist Associate Registrar of Degree Completion and Transfer in maintaining transfer equivalencies in Banner and TES.
- Assist in ensuring all policy and procedures are up-to-date and suggest changes that will streamline policy/procedures and ensure they are student focused.
- Preparation and verification of information for commencement ceremony
- Participate in all duties of the Office of the Registrar related to commencement ceremonies.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the University Registrar and Associate Registrars.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Experience in related tasks within an institution of higher education or Registrar's Office, with knowledge of higher education principles, practices, regulations and processes preferred.
- Experience in veterans education benefits and certification preferred.
- Experience in Banner or other student information system preferred.
- Experience in Microsoft Word and Excel required.
