Lorain/Medina Community Based Correctional Facility currently houses 130 non-violent felony offenders from Lorain and Medina counties. The C.B.C.F. is their "last chance" before going to prison. Felony offenders are sentenced by the Common Pleas Court Judges of Lorain and Medina counties.
Contract Teacher is a part-time position based on Grant Funding (12 Hrs/Week- Tues., Thurs., & Fri.). No taxes are paid or benefits provided. The starting pay is $31.62 per hour. This position reports to the Program Director and will work directly with the Education Coordinator to gather and assimilate information and to facilitate learning. Overall objective will be to provide offenders with instruction in all areas of the Education Program including literacy, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) preparedness and remediation. ASPIRE teachers instruct offenders in the areas of math, science, writing, reading and social studies which are all covered in GED testing. The teach may be required to assess offenders in order to create a learning program for each student. They may also conduct evaluations to either formally or informally determine if students are progressing. The ASPIRE teacher will help students with improving their critical thinking, problem-solving, and information processing and communication skills.
Required Skills:
Valid Ohio Teaching Certificate required.
Working knowledge of education and training in a correctional environment.
Valid Ohio's Driver's License, automobile liability insurance, and acceptable driving record required.
Maintain a First Aid & Adult CPR Certification.
Knowledge of ASPIRE and GED Programs.
Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with adults from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
Maintain discipline and adhere to the policies, procedures and rules of the C.B.C.F.
Operate a classroom that is conducive to learning, effectively manage time and work load.
Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
Must have the extensive computer skills for data keeping and analysis.
Ability to plan, organize, and administer TABE.
Skilled at oral and written communications.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships of resident offenders, community resources, co-workers, etc.
Ability to work under stressful and demanding conditions.
Ability to work independently.
Must be dependable, mature, and a self-starter.'
