GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:
Provide field support to Lease Operations, R&D, and Advance Technology Group. Serve to focus efforts toward coordination and fulfillment of successful field operations tests while maintaining customer needs and minimizing interference with daily operations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Communication
- Coordinate the field testing/application program with Engineering, Fleet Operations, and Marketing.
- Participate in development of experimental procedures with R&D and the Advanced Technology Group.
- Participate in design reviews, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) evaluations and related design and development activities.
- Work with engineering and vendors to define problems and develop solutions to optimize uptime and operating costs.
Leadership
- Provide training to field crews covering the actual experiment procedure, operating techniques and repair/replacement of equipment.
- Provide direction and training of fellow workers.
Operational Excellence
- Develop concise statements of new design needs from viewpoint of customers and Fleet Operations.
- Participate in development of experimental procedures with R&D and the Advanced Technology Group.
- Investigate economical design improvements to new and existing products.
- Assess performance of new designs from the view of the field crews under actual field conditions.
- Prepare reports on progress of projects and provide recommendations for any changes.
- Troubleshoot PLC code, Allen Bradley Software.
- Troubleshoot, Repair Machine electrical, computer and hydrostatic systems.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma/Equivalent and Associate Degree in Electronic/Electrical Technology from an accredited/certified technical school
Experience: 3 Years Related experience and/or training. Working knowledge of Prime Power applications including multiple generators to a finite bus. Strong interest in equipment technology as well as mechanical ability with focus on 3 phase power, DC traction systems, and AC motor control. Or 2 years of Loram equipment experience. Or 1 year of Loram specialized maintenance experience.
Licenses/Certifications: Maintain railroad safety training and certifications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Licenses/Certifications: Experience with thermal imaging tools with certification to level on thermographer. Demonstrated working knowledge of advanced control systems and the relationships between computer platforms and the systems they control.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- A working knowledge hydraulics, pneumatic, and electrical systems
- Ability to maintain a flexible travel calendar.
- Working knowledge/ability with 480V AC power, distribution systems, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, electronic controls, system interfaces
- Knowledge of AC, DC and hydrostatic railroad traction systems, diesel/generator power systems including synchronization, AC/DC rotating machines, PLC’s, preferably Rockwell
- Silicone Controlled Rectifier (SCR) Drive systems, including 600V DC traction controls
- Diesel generator power systems including startup, load-banking and other testing to validate product quality.
- Fluid power systems and electrical over fluid controls
- Experience with equipment such as solenoids, relays, valves, motors, switches, controls, annunciators and alarms.
- Read schematics & other technical documents, install/terminate wires & cables, crimp hoses

Loram determines compensation based on factors such as skills, competencies, education, and/or experience. Certain positions may be eligible for an annual bonus and paid time off in addition to base compensation.
Starting pay for the position is between $56,020.00 - $70,025.00
