Position Overview

Under general direction, Clinical Managers (CM) plan, develop, manage, and oversee the administration of behavioral health clinic operations and services, managing a team of clinicians. In conjunction with subordinate professional-level and administrative-level staff, the CM maintains and enforces acceptable professional and ethical standards of the program's clinical staff according to the Leadership Team's clinical vision. The CM also serves in a consultative role to staff mental health professionals and mental health practitioners. They participate in strategic planning and committee activities as assigned. CMs also monitor program activity and manage for clinical effectiveness and productivity.

Clinical Managers assists the Director of Psychological Services in ensuring the facility meets all related local, state, federal and accrediting-body rules and regulations. Clinical Manager assists the Director of Psychological Services in coordinating and managing patient care in the facility according to adopted policies / procedures, state and federal regulations, and accepted accreditation standards. Clinical Managers also serve as liaison between the clinical staff and Director of Psychological Services.

Distinguishing Features

The Clinical Manager is distinguished from the lower level of staff clinicians in that the latter does not have responsibility for organizational unit performance, which includes program or people management, evaluation, reporting and statistics, or outcome monitoring. The Manager is further distinguished from the Director of Psychological Services in that the latter directs service line operations across all sites.

  • A psychiatric clinician of uncommonly high competence in the domains of professionalism, ethical & legal standards, individual & cultural diversity, interpersonal relationships, scientific knowledge and methods, reflective practice, interdisciplinary systems, psychiatric intervention, supervision, teaching, and management
  • A supportive manager capable of instructing, focusing, and guiding others in accomplishing performance and work goals and objectives of behavioral health clinic / program operations and services
  • Someone capable of identifying and understanding how external issues (e.g., economic, political, social and health care trends) impact the work of behavioral health care services and who is able to motivate and inspire others by providing leadership and setting a sense of purpose for the Clinic and its programs
  • A competent decision maker capable of solving problems and taking appropriate action which is consistent with all available facts, constraints, and probable consequences in a fast paced, multidisciplinary environment by identifying and understanding issues, problems, and opportunities, and comparing data from different sources to draw conclusions
  • A collaborative spirit eager to actively participate as a member of a team contributing successfully to the completion of goals and objectives aligned with the mission, vision and values of the Clinic's system of care

Knowledge & Skills

The most suitable candidates will possess the following knowledge and competencies :

  • Managerial principles and practices including work planning, employee supervision, and resource allocation
  • Principles and practices for maintaining and expanding funding sources while adhering to payer administrative requirements
  • Principles and practices of program planning and evaluation
  • Practices and techniques of programmatic analysis and reporting
  • Psychological diagnostic methods and terminology
  • Cultural and ecosystemic factors affecting mental health
  • Clinical standards of practice and licensure requirements
  • Principles and practices of direct client service delivery germane to child day-treatment and family focused home-based treatment
  • Knowledge of current theories, principles, and practices for providing psychological services to clients
  • Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations
  • Office administrative practices and procedures including records management and the operation of standard office equipment
  • Computer applications related to the work including the Clinic's Electronic Health Record
  • Job Duties

  • Supports and inspires clinicians, advances the clinic's Clinician Wellness Roadmap
  • Assists the management team in compliance and accreditation efforts
  • Provision of supervision or consultation within the clinic's training program
  • The provision of clinical services including conducting diagnostic assessments, treatment planning, psychotropic intervention, psychotherapy, and discharge planning for patients of the clinic. Again, the role requires time spent in direct psychotherapy or supervision service. We're clinicians first.

    Requirements

    Either :

    A) the equivalent of one year of experience as a PMHNP at Lorenz Clinic with a proven track record of leadership and exceeding position requirements or

    B) the equivalent of three years of post-licensure experience as a PMHNP providing clinical services, of which one year must have been in a management or supervisory capacity equivalent to that of a Clinical Manager in an outpatient psychiatry program.

    And :

  • Competence (or willingness to develop) in the Competency-Based Approach to Supervision
  • Possession of a doctoral degree from an accredited school of nursing (PhD or DNP)
  • Possession of a valid, independent clinical license as a PMHNP in Minnesota
  • Competence across the lifespan is required
  • Cooperative work attitude toward management facility staff, patients, visitors, and clinicians
  • Ability to promote favorable facility image with clinicians, patients, insurance companies, referral sources, and general public
  • Ability to lead clinical staff in making ethically- and clinically- appropriate decisions and solve problems

  • Ability to work full-time, in-person (our leaders are in the clinic, not on Zoom)

  • Possesses a National Provider Identifier (NPI) prior to first day of employment
  • Approval for Medicare participation within 180 days of hire, if Medicare participation is allowed for license type

    Compensation

    The hiring range for this position is $165,000 - $240,000 annually, depending on experience, credentials, breadth of clinical competence, caseload, and clinical program.
