The Associate Laboratory Director for Defense Protection (ALDDP) Undergraduate Student (UGS) Program offers paid internships in a variety of Safeguards, Security, and Emergency Management disciplines. The program provides mentoring, hands-on experience, and professional development opportunities through a formalized work plan complementing the student's chosen area of study.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Education/Experience:
Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate degree program. Successfully completed a minimum of 12 undergraduate credit hours per semester (or the equivalent of full-time enrollment) in Safeguards, Security, Emergency Management, Business Administration, or similar discipline. Must currently have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).

- EM-HA (Hazards Analysis) responsible for providing state-of-the-art planning and preparedness services to protect national security assets and the health and safety of workers, the public, and the environment.
- EM-OPS (Emergency Operations) supports communications and responds to the field during emergencies using the Incident Command System.
- EM-PREP (Emergency Preparedness) protects life, property, and resources by preparing for those emergency incidents that cannot be prevented or mitigated to ensure an efficient and effective emergency response.
- EM-RESP (Emergency Response) Emergency Response provides a range of services to the Laboratory and community with participation in hazardous materials training course, Annual HazMat Challenge, Non-emergency hazardous materials consultation, and HAZMAT Response.
- SO-SS (Security Systems) oversees Administrative Access Control System and Argus badge readers as well as the Design, Installation and Warehouse Operations, and Operations Control for Security Systems.
- SO-PS (Personnel Security) works to mitigate the risk individual workers pose by using a unique set of policies and procedures to confirm identify and citizenship, issue security badges, process clearances and monitor human reliability for workers handling our nation's most sensitive nuclear materials.
- SO-PPO (Protection Program Operations) is comprised of Classified Matter Protection and Control who directs how classified matter is accessed, stored, generated, marked, reproduced, received and destroyed and accounted for based on DOE orders. Lock and Key ensures protection and management of locks and keys.
- SP-NMCA (Nuclear Material Control and Accountability) responsible for providing graded levels of control for accountable nuclear material (NM) and special nuclear material (SNM) based on the material type, quantity, and form.
- SP-PA (Personnel Assurance) responsible for the Human Reliability Program (HRP) and Substance Abuse Program (SAP).
- SP-SI (Security Investigations) responsible to conduct security inquiries, and fraud, waste, and abuse investigations concerning alleged violations of DOE Orders and LANL Policy.
- ALDDP-INT (Security Integration Office) responsible for fostering LANL security culture and facilitates secure work through enhanced awareness and strong interface across the directorate and with laboratory organizations.
- ALDDP-OCCI (Office of Classification and Controlled Information) responsible for the maintenance of the Laboratory's institutional capabilities and resources for identifying classified and controlled unclassified information. Export Control provides expertise and training to ensure institutional compliance with US federal export control regulations in support of LANL's mission and programs with foreign involvement and accurate and timely export control services for commodities to be shipped, information or software to be shared, and defense services to be performed on and off site.
- ALDDP-PO (Program Office) responsible for ensuing safeguards and security requirements are incorporated into all LANL projects including financial oversight.
