What You Will Do
The Nuclear Materials Science Group (MST-16) is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated candidate for the position of Nuclear Materials Postdoc. The position will focus on reaction kinetics and gas sorption studies of interest to the group and to the selected candidate. The successful candidate will interact across the group and laboratory on projects that support LANL missions.
MST-16 is an international leader in plutonium science and engineering and supports a variety of fundamental to applied programs, including Plutonium Modernization, Pit Surveillance, Science Programs, Life Extension programs, various global security programs, and Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) projects. MST-16 maintains a multidisciplinary expertise in actinide materials science and engages in multiple areas central to laboratory missions, including materials characterization, phase stability, mechanical and dynamic properties, aging, electronic structure, corrosion, and surface science. Our work takes place in the Plutonium Facility (PF-4), the Radiological Laboratory/Utility/Office Building (RLUOB), the Target Fabrication Facility (TFF), and numerous other facilities at LANL and across the country.

Competitive salaries are based on the date the Ph.D. degree requirements were completed or the degree was awarded. The starting salary for a new graduate is currently $94,500. What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Engineering, or other relevant technical discipline, completed within the last five years, or will have completed all Ph.D. requirements by commencement of appointment.
- Experience in one or more of the following: reaction kinetics, surface science techniques, synthesis, spectroscopy, thermophysical characterization, and/or microscopy.
- Dependability and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Commitment to technical and scientific excellence as well as timeliness of deliverables.
- Record of publications and the ability to express ideas clearly in oral and written formats.
- Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which generally requires US citizenship.
Desired Qualifications:
- Strong interest in learning new concepts, methods, and techniques.
- Background in performing experiments under minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated experience in solving problems using multidisciplinary approaches.
- Broad understanding across chemistry, materials science, and/or physics.
