What You Will Do

Come and join an innovative team conducting groundbreaking research in defense of our nation. The Safety Basis Division (SB-DO) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) develops and maintains Safety Basis documents for nuclear and high hazard facilities and applies a diverse set of nuclear facility engineering capabilities to provide innovative solutions to enable the Laboratory's scientific and national security mission.

We are seeking one Operations Support Specialist 4 to support the Safety Basis program with on-time delivery of quality documents to NNSA for review and approval along with internal deliverables, policies and procedures. This position, at the division office level, will support deliverables from all the safety basis groups.

As a Operations Support Specialists 4, you will manage the divisions processes via the Safety Basis Action and Tracking system [ST/AT], a footprint based system and assign tasks to the technical editing team. The ST/AT system tracks all Safety Basis actions to ensure deliverables meet intended deadlines. This position will support all aspects of safety basis documents. Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing as ST/AT administrator for the Safety Basis division, modifying as necessary, managing workload to staff, overseeing task progress and ensuring quality packages transmitted to NA-LA.
  • Provide expert input to and oversee various functions in conjunction with or in support of the safety basis program compliance, including planning, prioritizing, and scheduling of work activities, resource planning of tasks and activities. May oversee the development of procedures, tracking and assurance of employee continuous learning. Participates in or leads special/emergent projects.
  • Oversees the design, development, and implementation of procedures, specifications, and forms pertaining to organizational processes.
  • Support safety basis management meetings by providing necessary reports from the ST/AT, including other organization meetings such as NA-LA.
  • Oversee task assignments of technical editors ensuring deliverables are met.
  • Works on unusually significant, unique or complex issues, provides solutions that are highly creative and where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles. Has impact on success of future concepts, products or technologies
  • Provide input as requested for division metrics and data calls including from the Contract Office, also data calls for the System of Management Systems.

What You Will Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Expert knowledge and consultative experience with documentation quality assurance, including document controls and records management.
  • Demonstrated expert ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of operations and operational quality assurance to both technical and non-technical personnel
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications.
  • Expert knowledge of Laboratory business and operations systems and standard software applications, including footprint-based system, SharePoint and EDRMS.
  • Exceptional customer service, organizational skills, and ability to interact with all levels of personnel internal and external to the Laboratory.

Education/Experience: Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be expected.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge/experience of LANL Safety Basis Processes; LANL Conduct of Engineering procedures; and DOE Orders and Standards related to nuclear facility design, construction, and operations

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2: Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. Please refer to Policy Policy P701 for applicant eligibility requirements.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
