SUMMARY:
Processes regular and supplemental payroll for all employee groups; performs complex payroll calculations; gathers and verifies information from departments for proper processing of payroll transactions; creates, audits, corrects and balances payroll and a variety of reports.
ESSENTIAL DUITES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs a variety of complex payroll functions.
- Calculating pay according to hours worked incorporating leaves and overtime.
- Ability to master district’s time keeping system and assist employees in the functionality and use of the system.
- Organize and maintain departmental records, forms, files, and documents; prepare requested reports.
- Respond to questions and inquiries from staff and help within area of assignment.
- Ensures maintenance of electronic and paper payroll records. Manages, archives, and retrieves records per payroll schedule.
- Assists with generating, auditing, and monitoring leave banks for appropriate accruals and adjustments at regular interval and at the end of the fiscal year.
- Ability to collaborate with other departments such as Accounts Payable, Human Resources and School sites.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must successfully complete pre-employment paperwork and background check prior to hire
EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum: High School Diploma or GED
- Two years’ related job experience preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret payroll reports and required legal documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from Los Alamos Public Schools employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Must be able to apply mathematical operations to such extent as to adequately complete job duties
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies.
- Methods and techniques required to perform payroll processing.
- Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers and supporting word processing and spread sheet applications.
- Principles and procedures of financial record keeping and reporting
- Methods and techniques of payroll
- Understanding of pertinent federal, state, and local laws regarding codes and regulations regarding accounting practices
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit, walk, and stand; have manual and finger dexterity; stoop, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb stairs. The employee is occasionally required to crawl, reach above shoulder level, crouch, kneel, balance, push/pull, and carry. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 5 pounds. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds with the assistance of another person or appropriate equipment.
