The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking an Accounting Supervisor for our Finance department. The Accounting Supervisor works closely with the Controller at the Natural History Museum. It is an exciting time as we embark on new journeys of becoming a museum of, for, and with L.A.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Financial Statements: Ensure monthly and annual reconciliations of balance sheet accounts related to, payroll, fixed assets, deferred revenues, leases, accounts receivable, and investment/endowments are prepared timely and accurately. Participates in the development of accounting procedures and internal controls related to these areas.
Procurement and Vendor Payments: Performs detailed review of purchasing activity, ensuring proper GL coding is applied and purchases are made in line with operating and restricted budgets. Oversees processing of payments to vendors in all forms (checks, ACH, wires, etc.).
Cash Management: Oversees cash control process and performance as well as monitors cash balances across the Museum’s accounts with financial institutions. Manages funds according to organizational needs.
Budget Analysis: Provides proactive feedback on department level budget progress.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Controller dependent on organization needs.
This position has the following requirements:
Communication: Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication.
Reading Comprehension: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, peer- reviewed primary literature, or government regulations.
Writing Skills: Ability to write reports, business/professional correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Presentation Skills: Ability to effectively present information to and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Accounting: Ability to communicate difficult or complex accounting transactions in a basic manner to person(s) not having accounting or finance backgrounds.
Computer Experience: Has experience using a personal computer and with MS Office and its Word, Excel, and Outlook functions (PC and/or Macintosh) and the Google Suite of applications.
Accounting Software Experience: Is proficient in using spreadsheets for financial analysis and with integrated accounting and general ledger software including with organizations with multiple cost centers. Experience with Abila Fund Accounting software (MIP) is highly desirable.
Report Writing Software: Has experience using report writing software such as Microsoft Dynamics, Power BI, or Drillpoint.
A valid California Driver License and Personal Automobile Liability Insurance or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
