The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications is both a strategic thinker and a hands-on content creator. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, this person plays a critical role in shaping the school’s storytelling, ensuring that prospective families, current families, and donors feel informed, emotionally connected, and inspired by the school’s mission and impact.

Key Responsibilities
Content Strategy & Creation: Develop and produce content that reflects our forward-thinking brand—designed to perform well across platforms (email, website, socials, , etc.), resonate with modern audiences, and bring the SD experience to life for prospective and current families.
Paid Advertising Management: Develop and oversee media plans to reach prospective families, manage advertising contracts and budgets, and ensure timely delivery of ad creative.

Requirements / Qualifications
Required Experience & Skills Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field. 3-5 years of experience in marketing, communications, PR, or content strategy, ideally in an independent school or mission-driven organization. Familiarity with independent schools and the competitive landscape. A tech-forward mindset with a deep understanding of digital marketing and how to effectively leverage a variety of platforms for storytelling and audience engagement. Strong writing and editorial skills with a sharp eye for compelling stories. Ability to analyze digital marketing performance and adjust strategies accordingly. Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for education. An eye for brand identity and a passion for helping legacy institutions connect with today’s audiences in fresh, strategic ways. Understanding of how to tailor content to diverse audiences (e.g., prospective families, donors, alumni) while maintaining a cohesive brand voice. Ability to juggle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and occasionally work evenings/weekends for special events. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds (for signage, spirit wear, and promotional items). Must be available to work in person; this is not a remote position. But honestly, why wouldn’t you want to be on campus? You'll be surrounded by bright, passionate students who make every day an adventure—and their joy for learning is downright contagious. Preferred Experience & Skills Canva proficiency for quick-turn design projects. Photography and visual storytelling experience. Google Drive and cloud-based project management tools. Experience with tools like Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics, or similar digital marketing platforms to schedule, analyze, and optimize campaigns. PR experience and/or independent school background are a plus.
