As we prepare to celebrate our 175th anniversary in the 2025-26 school year, we are looking for a dynamic marketing professional to join our hard-working and fun-loving team and help share our story with the world—showcasing a school that combines deep-rooted values with a forward-thinking vision.
About the Role
The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications is both a strategic thinker and a hands-on content creator. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, balancing high-level planning with the excitement of capturing real-time moments on campus. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, this person plays a critical role in shaping the school’s storytelling, ensuring that prospective families, current families, and donors feel informed, emotionally connected, and inspired by the school’s mission and impact.
This position is a unique opportunity to play a major role in marketing and communications at a school with a rich history and an exciting future. If you're ready to bring fresh ideas, digital savvy, and a passion for education to our team, we’d love to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities
- Content Strategy & Creation: Develop and produce content that reflects our forward-thinking brand—designed to perform well across platforms (email, website, socials, print, etc.), resonate with modern audiences, and bring the SD experience to life for prospective and current families.
- Paid Advertising Management: Develop and oversee media plans to reach prospective families, manage advertising contracts and budgets, and ensure timely delivery of ad creative.
- Brand & Visual Assets: Coordinate the ordering and inventory of school spirit wear, signage, and marketing collateral.
- Photography & Video: Capture and curate photography and video assets that elevate our visual storytelling—highlighting joyful student moments, vibrant programs, and the beauty of campus life.
- Partner with the social media lead to develop content that performs well on social platforms and aligns with overall messaging goals.
- Translate educational values into clear, emotionally resonant messaging that speaks to the heart of why San Domenico matters—for families making school choices and donors seeking meaningful impact.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Contribute to long-term campaign planning and storytelling themes in partnership with Communications, Admissions, Advancement, and program leaders.
Required Experience & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in marketing, communications, PR, or content strategy, ideally in an independent school or mission-driven organization.
- Familiarity with independent schools and the competitive landscape.
- A tech-forward mindset with a deep understanding of digital marketing and how to effectively leverage a variety of platforms for storytelling and audience engagement.
- Strong writing and editorial skills with a sharp eye for compelling stories.
- Ability to analyze digital marketing performance and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for education.
- An eye for brand identity and a passion for helping legacy institutions connect with today’s audiences in fresh, strategic ways.
- Understanding of how to tailor content to diverse audiences (e.g., prospective families, donors, alumni) while maintaining a cohesive brand voice.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and occasionally work evenings/weekends for special events.
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds (for signage, spirit wear, and promotional items).
- Must be available to work in person; this is not a remote position. But honestly, why wouldn’t you want to be on campus? You'll be surrounded by bright, passionate students who make every day an adventure—and their joy for learning is downright contagious.
Preferred Experience & Skills
- Canva proficiency for quick-turn design projects.
- Photography and visual storytelling experience.
- Google Drive and cloud-based project management tools.
- Experience with tools like Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics, or similar digital marketing platforms to schedule, analyze, and optimize campaigns.
