Dixon Montessori Charter School is a WASC accredited public school enrolling students in grades TK-8th grade. We are a site based school program serving over 470 students under the authorization of Dixon Unified School District.
At DMCS, we blend core components of the Montessori philosophy (Kindergarten thru 3rd) with a Project-Based Learning Style (4th thru 8th grades) to create a dynamic, “hands-on” learning approach. All Montessori and Project-Based curriculum is aligned to the Common Core State Standards, and gives the students a well-rounded exposure to the many ways of learning.

Title: Dean of Students
Reports to: Executive Director
Primary Function:
The Dean of Students is primarily responsible for student conduct and discipline and implementation of PBIS throughout DMCS. The Dean of Students works directly with students and their families to promote and enforce good conduct and discipline. The Dean is responsible for the school attendance review board (SARB). The Dean will work closely with the administration, teachers, and support staff.
Relationship to Student Achievement: The consistent positive discipline will lead to a successful learning environment thus increasing student achievement.

Student Support & School Culture
Communicate effectively and maintain strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues
Communicate with parents all discipline issues, concerns and suspensions
Assist Administration in accurately monitoring discipline issues and working to provide the correct remedy
Works with Administration, Teachers and Parent to plan, develop, and implement individual student behavior contracts
Assists in developing programs and/or activities to promote positive student behavior through Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS), as well as implementation of PBIS strategies.
Monitor and supervise students in hallways, cafeteria, playgrounds and arrival and dismissal.
Assist Administration in meeting with all grade levels to discuss their role as it relates to PBIS and Student Discipline policies.
Respond to student truancy and assist the Executive Director in the SARB process.
Data Analysis
Share information about student progress with other stakeholders, including school leaders
Accurately and timely enter all discipline information in the student discipline databases
Collaborate with the Administration in the analysis of discipline data, with the goal of reducing misbehaviors, suspensions, etc.
Analyze student discipline data to understand the areas of greatest weakness and to develop systems and structures (incentive systems, school-wide procedures, professional development for teachers) to target reductions of specific behaviors
Classroom Support
Work with the teachers to promote PBIS within classrooms, promote a classroom environment free of discipline issues so teachers can teach and all students can learn to the best of their ability.
Articulate and enforce PBIS and the student discipline policy.
Acts as a resource person for staff training in the area of discipline issues, and provides related materials. Assists teachers in classroom management and effective instructional practices.
Professional Community
Actively participate in school teams and meetings, with the goal of developing professional knowledge and collaboratively problem-solving with colleagues- Comply with charter policies and administrative rules and directives, including but not limited to submission of instructional materials and curricular tasks, lunch/hallway/recess duty, attending parent meetings, administration of state, district, or internal assessments, etc.

Experience in working with students with behavioral challenges
Outstanding ability to communicate well with parents, and to help students modulate their own behavior.
Ability to work both on broad-based strategy and everyday details and to exercise excellent judgment in decision-making
Excellent verbal and written communication across diverse audiences including children and families from low-income communities
Professional demeanor, strong work-ethic, detail-driven work style with excellent organizational skills
Ambitious nature interested in growing as an educator and reaching high standards professionally

Educational Background and Work Experience:
Administrative Credential required, Advanced degree preferred
