Job Description
TITLE: INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma. Teacher aide courses desirable
Demonstrated knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing and mathematics or reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
Ability to follow oral and written directions
Knowledge of basic clerical procedures
Ability to learn library and/or computer skills
Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in multiethnic environment
Bilingual ability may be required, depending on assignment
REPORTS TO: Administration
JOB GOAL: To assist in providing well-organized, smoothly functioning school environment in which students benefit from instructional program
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists teachers, specialists, counselors and other staff in reinforcing instructional programs (e.g. Regular, SpEd, ELD) and guiding students in development of desirable academic and social skills and habits
Works with small groups of children under direction of member of certificated staff
Assists with checking, care, preparation and arrangement of instructional materials and equipment
Assists with recordkeeping, filing and other clerical duties as appropriate to program funding
May be assigned to assist in classroom, library, computer instruction, in-school suspension, and/or community contact activities
Assist identified students with health issues, including but not limited to personal hygiene.
Ability to walk to/from classrooms throughout campus for the purpose of escorting/supervising students
Ability to walk and stand for at least thirty minutes, throughout school playgrounds, for the purpose of student supervision during recess
Assist with student supervision throughout school playgrounds
Ability to quickly administer and assist in first aid
Performs other related duties as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be according to current schedule.
EVALUATION: According to Board Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable.

$16.72-$21.24 hourly rate in 12 steps. No less than minimum wage. Placement on the salary schedule will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, as determined by the District Superintendent.
