The Los Angeles County Office of Education is seeking qualified individuals with expertise in real estate laws, negotiation skills, and property appraisal principles for the position of Real Estate Coordinator. Under administrative direction, plans, organizes, and supervises the functions of the Facilities Planning Section in the Division of Facilities and Construction; performs professional real estate work in the planning and coordination of the acquisition and management, valuation, negotiation for acquisition, leasing and management of real property; prepares documents in matters of leasing, ownership, property rights, acquisitions, dispositions, deeds, and reconveyances; coordinates inspections to ensure facilities compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following
Knowledge:
- Federal, state, and local laws governing sale and lease practices, appraisals, real estate negotiations, including laws governing real estate activities in the public sector
- Property appraisal principles and valuation methods, commercial, industrial and retail real estate markets, management, real estate ethics, laws, and practices
- Negotiation techniques related to real estate terms and conditions
- Building practices and codes for commercial, industrial, and retail buildings, tenant improvement, and construction work
- Urban and regional planning process
- Common methods of describing real property
- Lease tracking software systems
- Deed and tract restrictions, zoning ordinances, and real estate titles
- Contractual agreements involved in real estate appraisal, leasing, acquisition and sales
- Government, education, health, and safety codes
- Principles of employee selection, supervision, training and performance evaluations
- Fundamental concepts of employment laws, codes, and regulations, including EEOO, FLSA, FMLA, and Cal/OSHA and applicable provisions of collective bargaining agreements
- Analyzing & Interpreting Data – Drawing meaning and conclusions from quantitative and/or qualitative data

Education: A bachelor’s degree in real estate, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field, from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
Experience: Five years of experience in acquiring, negotiating, selling, and renting commercial and industrial real property and managing such properties, including two years of related experience in a supervisory capacity.
Additional Requirements: A valid California Real Estate Broker’s License. A valid California driver's license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation between job sites is required.
Hybrid remote schedules may be available.
Selection Process
Candidates who meet the minimum requirements above will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of a performance exam, technical interview, and/or structured interview.

Candidates who pass all exam parts are ranked according to overall exam score and placed on an eligibility (hiring) list. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. Eligibility lasts for 12 months; however, additional recruitment may occur under a separate bulletin with additional candidates being merged onto the eligibility list. Some positions that involve public contact may require bilingual proficiency for which selective certification may apply (Education Code 45277.5).
