Job Description / Essential Elements:
To provide comprehensive counseling & guidance services within the secondary school. This includes services & guidance in the areas of career planning, educational planning, and psychological/social development and to assist in the development of positive self-image and the improvement of interpersonal relationship among pupils, teachers & parents. - To implement & supoort the philosphy, goals, objectives & policies of the district & school - To help pupils become responsible, self-directed citizens & to assist pupils in the development of decision-making skills - To provide guidance in the development of educational plans commensurate with individual aptitude & achievement. - To plan with parents & pupils and to provide information for the development of career plans - To aid pupils in the selection of appropriate courses & to interpret courses & graduation requirements - To counsel with pupils & parents in regard to academic problems & to communicate (in writing and by telephone) when necessary regarding pupil's progress & problems - To provide assistance to teachers, including conferences, to interpret the abilities & needs of pupils and consultation concerning specialized instruction indicated - To counsel with pupils in regard to personal, social, & family problems and to aid the pupil in seeking solutions - to review registrations and program changes - To aid in the development of group guidance programs which include faculty, curricula, Career Center, and/or community involvement - To serve as coordinator & facilitator of parent/teacher conferences & resource person for referral services in school districts and community - To keep appropriate records - To Enhance professioanl competence through professional growth activities - To assist in staff planning for the school principal relating to articulation, enrollment, scheduling, vocational guidance, testing, and other related counseling subprograms - To interact positively with colleagues - To participate in supervision of school activities - To utilize school & community resources for pupil benefit - To select or recommend pupils for special need, merit or recognition - To administer standardized tests & to interpret test results Under the immediate supervision of the site administrator with assistance from site/district administrative staff. Provides leadership & professional/technical advice to advisors & other certificated staff assigned to the school.
Requirements / Qualifications
Applicants must hold or be eligible for California Pupil Personnel Services Credential with School Counselor authorization
