Position Summary
The faculty member shall be responsible for the following : teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member.
The Electronics Technology department at American River College seeks a professor who can explain electronic theories and demonstrate the use of test and measurement equipment at the career-technical level. Our department strongly emphasizes hands-on learning; we are looking for a professor who can demonstrate how circuits work, and help students discover electronics by building circuits and experimenting with them. We don't use calculus in any of our classes; the new professor will explain circuit theory with arithmetic and basic algebra. The professor should be prepared to help some students with remedial math concepts. The applicant should be willing and excited to work with students from a diversity of races, ethnicities, gender identities, and backgrounds. The professor should be able to exercise all of these skills and abilities in person, as well as in distance-education settings.
The professor will use an online learning management system called Canvas to support all classes. They will create a Canvas website for each class that they teach. The professor will use the class's Canvas site to share materials with students, receive assignments, and post student grades.
The professor will teach some classes in person and some classes online. In-person teaching involves lecturing, leading student labs, and holding office hours. Online teaching may include hosting and delivering lectures to live online audiences, creating and editing video lectures and demonstrations, hosting office hours and meetings on Zoom, and interacting with students remotely through email. The professor will create and maintain class websites for in-person and online classes.
Position Salary Information :
Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper / graduate level units earned, and / or related professional occupational experience per the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract (the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 8).
