Job Summary And Qualifications
Primary responsibility is coordination of the Sepsis Program, to ensure evidence-based therapies are met for each patient within appropriate time frames. Responsible for monitoring length of stay and patient mortality among the Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock patient population. Calculates compliance with bundle elements, prepares and presents statistical data, graphics, and reports to Committees, including the Interdisciplinary Sepsis Committee, Sepsis M&M committee, and other Committees as requested. Prepares OIC summary report for the Medical Executive Committee. Challenges coding when the patient presentation does not meet criteria for Severe Sepsis or Septic Shock. Provides direct input and recommendations for Program improvement; implements recommendations; develops policies or procedural changes to enhance the Sepsis Program. Recognized as a subject matter expert for nursing, physicians, and ancillary departments. Exemplifies integrity and professionalism; is self-directed and holds confidential all aspects of patient information.

- You will develop and provide basic Sepsis in-service & education for multiple disciplines, tailored to their knowledge base. This includes RN, Physician, RCT, Lab, RT, CNA and others about evidence-based therapies in Sepsis, and their individual role responsibilities when Severe Sepsis is identified.
- You will work collaboratively with Physician Champion(s) of Sepsis Program
- You will organize and coordinate Interdisciplinary Sepsis Committee and Sepsis M&M Meetings and Sepsis Workgroup Meetings to include agenda, minutes and all follow up actions. Contacts team members for completion of assignments to improve hospital processes related to Sepsis.
- You will evaluate and monitor Sepsis program, making specific recommendations for improvement to sepsis committee, and/or physician champion as needed.
- You will monitor sepsis patients from admission through discharge, assisting the RN to complete all bundle elements and patient education as the patient progresses.
- You will, along with the Staff RN, participates in patient/family education, based on learning needs, abilities, learning preferences, and readiness to learn based on age, level of understanding, and cultural norms.
- You will be able to respond to CODE SEPSIS during working hours to monitor staff response, RRT actions, and to act as a subject matter expert when needed. will
- You will complete rounds of clinical areas as a subject matter expert to identify patients who may have become septic.
- Completed an Accredited Nursing Program.
- Master’s Degree in Healthcare File preferred or 5 years of work experience in infection.
- Current CA RN license in good standing
- Current BCLS required
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or database management required.
- Demonstrated expertise with data analysis, trending and reporting.
- Experience with Meditech preferred.
- Expert project management skills; ability to work independently, be flexible, and lead a strong inter-disciplinary team.
