Overview
The Intake Coordinator plays a vital role in the hospice setting by managing the flow of patient information and ensuring that all necessary documentation is collected accurately and efficiently. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of medical terminology and processes. The Intake Coordinator will serve as the first point of contact for patients, facilitating their entry into the clinic while maintaining a high standard of customer service.
Duties
- Speak with patients, family members, referral sources, and assist with the intake process, ensuring all necessary forms are completed accurately.
- Collect and verify patient information, including insurance details and medical history.
- Schedule appointments using medical scheduling systems, coordinating with clinical staff to optimize patient flow.
- Manage phone systems to handle incoming calls, answer inquiries, and direct calls to appropriate personnel.
- Maintain accurate records in health information management systems, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Perform clerical tasks such as uploading, data entry, and typing to support office operations.
- Utilize knowledge of hospice ICD-10 coding and electronic medical systems for accurate documentation to obtain medical records and reporting.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a clerical or administrative role within a clinic or healthcare setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and health information management practices is essential.
- Proficiency in using phone systems and various office software applications.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with patients and team members.
- Ability to work independently while being part of a team-oriented environment.
