Position Summary:
The Gifted and Talented teacher provides leadership and coordination for planning, implementation, and assessment of curriculum/instructional initiatives related to improvements in K-12 Gifted Program. Through the implementation of innovative and research best practices, this position ensures the delivery of high quality instructional programming. This work is carried out in compliance with Aurora Public Schools, state and federal guidelines. The K-12 Gifted and Talented teacher is responsible for providing guidance and leadership in the area of gifted and talented education to all K-12 teachers as well as act as the liaison between the school and the district Gifted and Talented department.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of Gifted and Talented identification processes as well as district requirements and best practices on Gifted and Talented program implementations.
- Organizational and planning abilities.
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and leadership skills with individuals, teams, and groups, (teachers, parents, administrators, and support staff).
- Gifted endorsement required.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides Gifted and Talented instruction to all K-12 students at LSE on a weekly basis.
- Acts as the liaison between the school and the district’s Gifted and Talented department.
- Establishes and promotes communication with Gifted and Talented parents.
- Prepares, monitors, and updates ALPs for elementary Gifted and Talented students.
- Provides expertise to ensure systematic and continuous K-12 Gifted and Talented programming, and beyond (seamless transition from on grade to another).
- Facilitates an ongoing staff development plan on Gifted and Talented programs and instructional practices.
- Submits appropriate reports to the administration and to the district, as needed.
- Remains current on latest research and development in gifted education.
- Works with the district Gifted and Talented Department in developing and implementing program expectations and staff development.
- Helps develop the program budget, as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree with a major in the specific content area
- GT Certification
- Expert-level written and oral communication skills
- Entrepreneurial outlook and charter school commitment
- Ability to work collaboratively
- Strong desire to excel in a very diverse student environment
- CPR certification (LSE will provide necessary resources to become certified)
Preferred:
- Active Colorado Teaching License
- Experience with charter schools
- Advanced Placement (AP) experience
- Master’s Degree in a related field
- Concurrent Enrollment Course experience
Condition of Employment
As a condition of employment, the individual selected for this position will be expected to complete the APS-sponsored Linguistically Diverse Educator (LDE) Certificate Program within the first three years of employment. New hires are expected to begin this program during the 2025-2026 school year.
