What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Public Works Technician position at Loudoun County Government?
Loudoun County's Department of General Services is seeking qualified applicants to fill a Senior Public Works Technician vacancy in the Public Works Division.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Maintaining concrete, asphalt and gravel pavements including snow and ice removal from sidewalks & parking lots
• Manufacturing street signs
• Performing general landscape and grounds maintenance
• Removing trees and debris
• Performing inspections and maintenance of earthen, concrete, rock and metal stormwater structures and channels
• Operating and maintaining machinery, heavy equipment, vehicles, and tools
• Supporting County emergency operations
• Frequently interfacing with citizens and county employees
High school diploma or equivalent with training in landscaping and heavy equipment; two (2) years of related work experience in landscaping and the operation of heavy equipment including some work supervision experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strongly prefer specialized training in Public Works infrastructure construction and maintenance, grounds maintenance, and/or turf management experience.
Prefer a working knowledge of computers and tablets.Must successfully complete pre-employment criminal and DMV background checks.
Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification); hold or obtain a Class “A” or “B” CDL within six (6) months of hire.
Must pass required pre-employment drug/alcohol screening at time of hire and continue to meet DOT/CDL requirements including alcohol and drug testing. The CDL component must comply with the Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program as outlined by Loudoun County's Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Policy for Transportation Employees.
Within one (1) year of hire, obtain the following licenses and certifications:
• DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector
• Forklift License
• Work Zone Traffic Safety Certification
• Flagging Certification
This position is considered “essential” and may be required to work 24/7 in case of County emergencies and perform snow removal operations as directed.
