About the Little Gate Program:
The Little Gate Program is play-based, inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy of early childhood education. We view the child as capable and curious. This natural inquisitiveness leads children to explore, discover, question, experiment, and construct their own knowledge about the world they live in and their role in it.
Position Description:
The Little Gate Summer Camp Counselor provides leadership and guidance for a group of students, ensuring a quality experience to children and parents. A Little Gate Summer Camp Counselor creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers.
Essential Functions:
- Plans, leads, and implements camp programs for children.
- Provides high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp participants.
- Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
- Report to the Program Camp Director(s) any concerns about a camper’s health, safety, or well-being.
- Maintains a schedule for camp participants.
- Organizes and leads various small and large group activities
- Ensures the cleanliness of the school.
- Assists in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports and daily attendance.
- Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
- Records and tracks camper’s dietary restrictions/allergies and ensures that the meals/snacks are distributed to them.
- Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp program, including knowing the whereabouts of your students at all times.
- Review the camp rules with students and help to enforce these rules consistently throughout camp.
- Promote and support positive and meaningful interactions between students.
- Assist with all-camp events and other camp-wide activities as assigned.
- Attend all planned activities, including staff training and staff meetings, and follow the daily schedule.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Be at least 18 years of age and possess the maturity and skills needed to perform the job successfully.
- Have a sincere desire to work with and be of service to children.
- Be willing to actively pursue and fulfill the goals and mission of Summer at McGehee.
- Have experience with leadership.
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Excellent written and oral skills.
- Prefer minimum of one year working experience at Little Gate Summer Camp and/or Summer at McGehee.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Regularly works in standard classroom conditions and climate, frequently works outdoors in varying weather conditions and climate.
- Regularly uses close and distance vision, ability to observe students from various distances.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time;
