Position Title: Summer Camp Counselor
Reports To: Camp Director
Job Summary:
The Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for creating a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for campers. Counselors lead activities, provide mentorship, and ensure campers have a memorable summer camp experience by promoting personal growth, teamwork, and exploration.
Important Camp Dates:
- Mandatory Orientation/Training: Wednesday, May 28th; Thursday, May 29th, and Friday, May 30th
- First Day of Camp: Monday, June 2nd
- 4th of July Holiday: Closed the week of June 30th
- Last Day of Camp: Friday, July 25th
Key Responsibilities:
Camper Supervision & Safety:
- Supervise and engage with a group of campers throughout the day, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Act as a positive role model and mentor for campers.
- Maintain a safe and supportive environment by addressing any behavioral or emotional issues appropriately.

- Activity Leadership:
- Lead, plan, and facilitate camp activities such as arts and crafts, sports, outdoor adventures, games, and team-building exercises.
- Adapt activities to accommodate campers’ abilities and interests while encouraging participation.
- Assist specialist staff (e.g., lifeguards, art instructors) during specific activities or events.
- Perform tasks as directed by the Camp Director.
- Be an active advocate of Kehoe-France Northshore Summer Camp’s vision, mission, and promises.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with other counselors and camp staff to plan and implement daily schedules and special events.
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure a smooth, cohesive camp experience.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and camp-wide events.
- Behavior Management & Guidance:
- Foster positive relationships between campers, promoting respect, kindness, and inclusion.
- Address conflicts among campers in a calm, supportive manner.
- Encourage independence, confidence, and teamwork among campers.
- Health & Safety:
- Follow all camp policies and procedures, including emergency protocols, as outlined in our camp handbooks.
- Administer basic first aid when needed and report any injuries or concerns to camp leadership.
- Ensure campers remain hydrated, use sunscreen, and stay within designated areas.
- Camper Engagement:
- Create a welcoming environment for all campers, helping them build friendships and participate fully in camp activities.
- Lead by example with enthusiasm, energy, and a positive attitude.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Previous experience working with children in a camp, school, or recreational setting is preferred.
- Minimum age requirement - 15 years old for junior counselors and 18 for lead counselors
- Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to lead group activities and manage a group of children effectively.
- Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
- Certifications:
- First Aid and CPR certification (camp will provide training)
- Safeguarding (camp will provide training)

Additional Information:
- This is a seasonal position, typically lasting from the end of May through the end of July.
- Camp hours are 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
- Camp is closed the week of June 30th in honor of July 4th.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: lifting (up to 50 pounds), carrying, squatting, pushing, and/or pulling. Generally, the job requires sitting, walking, and standing.
This position is conditional to the provision of federal criminal background checks covering the countries you have lived and worked in for the last 10 years, and any convictions highlighted will be reviewed against standard Safeguarding principles of working with children. All checks requested to be received prior to commencement of employment.
