ADMISSIONS COUNSELOR
JOB SUMMARY: Performs a variety of duties in the recruitment and selection of student applicants for admission to Louisiana Christian University.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Represents Louisiana Christian University to prospective students through the presentation of information regarding admissions, academic programs, student life, religious activities, and financial aid throughout the assigned region and statewide when necessary.
- Analyze qualifications of prospective students by utilizing established admission standards, guidelines, and criteria. Submits evaluations and recommendations for further action.
- Administers the College’s recruitment programs by visiting secondary schools within assigned geographic area. Conducts meetings with students, parents, and counselors. Visit churches in assigned geographic area.
- Meet or exceed recruiting goals set for the geographical area.
- Corresponds with applicants and arranges for interviews with applicants and their parents; push students towards campus tours and departmental visits and interviews.
- Coordinates with the Registrar’s Office to ensure timely and accurate input and retrieval of admission data.
- Coordinates with the Student Financial Planning Office to assist needy students to attend school.
- Come to campus for Preview Days, Pre-Registration Days and other events assigned by the Director of Admissions.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in the development of recruitment brochures and newsletters.
- Participate in weekly meetings with Director of Admissions and Admissions Team.
- Prepare and submit weekly to Director of Admissions a report containing contacts and visits made that week.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Position requires a high degree of initiative and independent judgment; discretion is allowed within current policies and procedures, including the ability to recommend improvements to policies and procedures.
- Exercise of human relations skills is critical to the success of this position. Position is key to maintaining important university relations with university faculty, staff, administration, students, and members of the community and the public.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of university admission guidelines, standards, and procedures, and higher education recruitment in general; knowledge of various financial aid programs, including application deadlines and regulations; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to plan and implement recruitment events in an organized and efficient manner; ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with university faculty, staff, administration, students, and members of the community and the public.
- Must be proficient with all forms of technology.
Education:
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
- Experience in higher education admissions, counseling, sales/marketing, or related field is preferred.

Working Conditions:
- Inside work environment; non-hazardous work (Infrequent exposure to extremes in noise, temperatures, distractions, etc. Little or no exposure to hazards. Generally good working conditions with infrequent exceptions). Must be able to drive to off-site recruitment locations.
Physical Requirements:
- Light physical exertion. Normally seated, standing, or walking at will. Periodic handling of lightweight parcels or supplies. Use of handcart for transporting admissions materials.
