Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and teach courses in broadband infrastructure, fiber optics installation, network cabling, and telecommunications technologies.
- Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications (e.g., Fiber Optic Technician, Broadband Technician, OSHA 10/30, Tower Climber Safety).
- Align curriculum with Louisiana’s broadband expansion initiatives and workforce needs.
- Provide hands-on training with equipment such as fiber splicers, network analyzers, and RF testers.
- Collaborate with employers to facilitate internships, apprenticeships, and job placements.
- Stay updated on industry advancements and integrate them into course content.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal workforce training standards.
- Maintain student records and report outcomes to funding agencies and workforce partners.
Required Education:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, OR extensive industry experience.
- Industry certifications in broadband technology, fiber optics, or network infrastructure
- Strong hands-on technical skills and ability to train students in real-world applications.
- Ability to work with diverse learners, including adult education and workforce development students.
- Prior teaching or workforce training experience is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employes to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 lbs.
- Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on computer and related office equipment.
- Must be able to stand, walk, reach, bend, balance, grasp, and push.
- Must possess the mobility to work in a standard office setting, as well as in an outside environment that could include extreme hot and cold temperatures.
- Must have use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public using the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, and manage to feel objects and controls.
- Climbing in and out of equipment related to the course.
