Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
One year of experience in any field.
Necessary Special Requirements
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Position Specific Duties
- Six week Correctional Officer Training Academy in St. Gabriel, LA.
- Security Officer in a hospital environment.
- Work closely with inmates incarcerated in a State prison facility who are receiving care at the University Medical Center of New Orleans.
- Primarily responsible for the custody and security of inmates being treated in a hospital setting.
- Supervise and escort inmates, report and investigate suspicious activities, perform in-depth security searches/shakedowns of inmate’s person, property, and living quarters.
- Follow direction given by upper level officers, departmental policies, and regulations.
- Will receive firearms training.
Career Progression
- Start as a Corrections Cadet. (May start as a Corrections Sergeant with certain qualifying experience.)
- Eligible for reallocation, up one pay level from Cadet, to Corrections Sergeant after 6 months of successful employment.
- Eligible for reallocation, up two pay levels from Sergeant, to Corrections Sergeant-Master after one year of successful LA DOC employment.
- With 2 years of Correctional Officer experience, eligible to apply for promotional testing for Corrections Lieutenant.
