Job Description:
The incumbent of this position works at the Journeyman level, provides assistance to a Maintenance Foreman and provides guidance and support for painters, helpers, and student workers. Required to perform standard tasks of the trade in addition to the quasi supervisory responsibility as assigned for work locations.
Job Duties:
Determines methods of application and applies paint with brush, roller or spray gun to the exterior and interior of buildings, furniture and to structural steel/equipment. Mixes thin and matches paint. Determines type of paint and stains to use. 30%
Provides guidance and serves as job leader for journeyman painters and student workers. Directs and trains assigned helpers and apprentices. Makes preliminary painting project estimates. Set work priorities to meet key performance goals as scheduled per assigned department. -20%
Performs related duties such as glazing, wall covering, sheetrock, spackling, repair plaster and cement work, etc. Performs building exterior and interior caulking, finish repair, mud and tape, and texturing tasks. -15%
May perform the duties of the maintenance foreman during absence, such as coordinating job assignments, scheduling contractor paint and plaster labor, diagnosing problems, determining paint material applications/methods, selecting painting instruments, requisitioning supplies and maintaining records. -10%
Cleans surfaces to be painted with use of sandpaper, burners, scrapers, brushes, dip vats, sanding machines and dusters Cleans and inspects parts prior to painting. -10%
Erects and removes scaffolding, swinging stages and boatswain as necessary. -10%
Performs other related duties as assigned. -5%
Minimum Qualifications:
One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:
Three years of experience or training in the painting trade.
Three years of experience or training in the painting trade.
Special or Physical Qualifications:
Due to the nature of this position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
In accordance with PS-18 this position maybe required to report or stay on campus in the event of emergency or closure.
