Job Summary:

The Mammography Technologist, under direct supervision, performs specialized examinations of the breast to help in the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease in women patients for our physicians. Mammography Technologist may perform screening exams or diagnostic exams

Other duties are assigned by the Senior Supervisor according to policies and procedures and the mission of Louisiana Women’s Healthcare.


Qualifications:

  • Education: AS Degree required
  • Certification/Licensure: ARRT Radiologic Technologist Certification and
  • Advanced Level Mammography Certification required
  • LA State License


Job responsibilities:

  • Greets patients and provides instructions and education on procedures regarding exam
  • Perform diagnostic or screening mammogram as ordered by physician
  • Strictly follows all MQSA, FDA and Louisiana State Laws regarding imaging
  • Promote comfort and privacy for the patient
  • Produce high quality digital images for the radiologist to evaluate
  • Serve as the primary liaison between patients and Radiologists and other members of the support team
  • Complete appropriate documentation in electronic medical records system(s)



Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and medical terminology
  • Extensive knowledge of community standards related to MQSA quality assurance
  • Knowledge of radiologic equipment and testing
  • Knowledge of safety hazards related to radiology
  • Knowledge of HIPPA compliance


Skills:

  • Skilled in properly positioning patients to provide quality imaging
  • Skilled in the operations of Mammography equipment
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with other co-workers


Abilities:

  • Ability to understand and interpret policies and regulations.
  • Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain effective working relationships with managers, peers and direct report
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures directions from Supervisor
  • Ability to multi-task and give attention to details


Environmental/Working conditions:

  • Typical working conditions for this position are indoors in a controlled environment. Frequently the work is fast paced and stressful.
  • Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as radiation, noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and blood borne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases and dust.
  • Frequent exposures to distressed patients, families or visitors


Requirements

Temperament:

  • Prefers detail-oriented work. Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Willingness and ability to work in any areas of assigned responsibility.


Physical Requirements:

  • Requires manual dexterity for data entry on the computer.
  • Requires visual and listening ability to communicate clearly with patients and family members either by written or verbal means
  • Requires visual ability to review computer reports.
  • Requires sitting and standing associated with normal office environment. All duties to be performed with or without accommodation.

  • When not in the office, arranges for coverage, or requests assistance to ensure assigned work is completed.

  • Treat patients and their families like partners in determining care
  • Treat teammates like partners (internal customers) in providing care and service to patients, guests and one another
  • Maintain strict confidentiality
