What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Planner position at Louisville Metro Government?
The purpose of this position is to plan and coordinate projects, operations, and/or activities concerning zoning, land use, subdivision, transportation regulations, studies and procedures, and urban design/historic preservation. Provides technical and policy guidance to staff as well as other departments.
This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
• Plans, develops and implements programs, policies and procedures.
• Maintains departmental records and files.
• Assists in the development and dissemination of information and materials regarding programs and procedures.
• Coordinates community planning and zoning projects with governmental agencies, utility company representatives, engineers, and transportation agencies.
• Provides technical assistance and instruction concerning zoning, community planning, and implementation of laws, regulations, ordinances, principles, procedures and activities.
• Plans and coordinates projects, services, operations, and activities concerning zoning, land use, subdivision and transportation regulations and area studies.
• Provides the public with information concerning zoning, land use, subdivision, and transportation policies and procedures.
• Presents findings on transportation, community planning, zoning and subdivision projects at public hearings and committee meetings.
• Collects statistical data and prepares reports on activities, issues and operations.
• Engages the community to gather input and feedback on projects and planning studies to build consensus and assure plan/project implementation.
• Manages the update and maintenance of the Comprehensive Plan and land development regulations.
• Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Architecture, Engineering, Urban Economics or related discipline.
• Four (4) years of urban and regional planning; comprehensive or functional community planning; multi-modal transportation community planning; or urban design or historic preservation or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
• Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
