POSTITION TITLE
Public Services Librarian
FUNCTION
Responsible for the E. M. White Library, Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary’s reference collections and services. Provides reference assistance and instruction to students, faculty and other patrons. Responsible for the operation and management of the LPTS archives and circulation.
REPORTS TO
Director of Library Services, E. M. White Library
Core Responsibilities
- Develops and implements a comprehensive strategy for the Library’s reference services
- Provides library reference services for faculty, students, staff and other library patrons face-to-face, via email, via phone, and through a variety of online platforms
- Collaborates in the development of the library’s instructional program
o Provides instruction to enable individual patrons to use library tools more effectively for their own research and current/future vocation(s)
o Provides library instruction and tours as needed
o Creates instructional materials (web-based tutorials, training documents, and other instructional resources) that enables effective use the library’s resources
o Provides instruction in formatting and citation styles for DMin and MAR students
- Manages Archives and Museum collections
o Develops and implements planning for organization and curation of archival and museum material
o Responds to requests for archival information from internal and external constituencies
- Manages Circulation
o Maintains currency with all aspects of Circulation Services
o Provides leadership and responds to needs of Seminary Community
o Supervises Student Assistants
- Plans, prepares, and oversees physical and digital displays that highlight unique or topical aspects of the collection
- Provides support for the successful production of DMin projects (formatting, referencing, printing, etc.)
- Prepares monthly and annual reports of library usage, pertinent budget lines updates, and Public Services forms
- Oversees Course Reserves (electronic and print)
- Oversees marketing and promotion (e.g., social media, Seminary Times, Canvas, Library Guides, etc.)
- Assists with acquisitions, budget, and collection development
- Other duties as needed
MINIMUM Qualifications
- A Master of Library/Information Science (MSLS, MLIS, or MLS) from an ALA-accredited program
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a small team and communicate effectively with internal and external constituencies
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiarity with ecumenical and interreligious traditions
- Skilled in the use of MS Office Suite and Canvas or comparable learning management system
