Job Summary
The General Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial, accounting, and grant support services to meet the needs of the organization and its grantors and donors. This position is responsible for preparing financial statements, providing financial reporting, and analysis in support of the various programs. Working closely with the CFO, the General Accountant will focus heavily on budgeting, compliance, reporting, and variance analysis functions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists with creating journal entry transactions and account reconciliations
- Assists and supports reporting and invoicing for grants and contracts
- Assists with accounts payable processing and filing
- Assists with payroll validations and reconciliations
- Develops and updates accounting and fund development databases
- Assists and supports grant and contract compliance
- Provides support for audit preparation
- Enters finalized cash receipts and updates accounts receivable records
- Verifies the accuracy of funds received (i.e., account numbers, assigned department codes, etc.) prior to inputting into the accounting system
- Answers accounting phone inquiries and follows up
- Processes deposits and prepares cash receipts journals
- Enters copier and postage data for monthly reporting
- Maintains accurate accounts receivable files
- Assists in Special Events and projects
- Provides administrative support as needed
- Work with LUL Staff as needed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
To be successful the incumbent should, at a minimum, possess skills, knowledge or abilities in the following:
- Extensive knowledge of Federal Accounting Guidelines
- Proven organizational and supervisory skills in finance and administration
- Knowledgeable of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures
- Knowledge of fund accounting and payroll processing
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to work alone and complete large tasks in a specified time frame.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines
- Bilingual is a plus.
- Must be detailed and results-oriented
- Proficient in Google products (Docs, Calendar, Drive)
- Team-oriented, and can think strategically with other staff.
- Must be highly motivated, and goal-oriented
- Punctuality is a must and willing to work as needed.
- Willing to undergo a background check, in accordance with local law/regulations
- Valid driver’s license required and willing to use a personal automobile.
- COVID-19 Vaccination preferred.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum three (3) years experience in accounting, preferably in a non-profit agency.
- Three or more years of experience in fund accounting and detailed contract-driven invoicing.
- Auditing skills and/or accounting experience through an accounting firm can be substituted for experience.
