What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Accountant position at Society of St. Vincent de Paul?
The General Accountant supports the Accounting Department by processing payroll and accounts payable, assisting in budgets and month-end closing, as well as performing other finance-related duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Process payroll through a third party vendor (Kronos/UKG)
- Quarterly reconciliations of payroll accounts
- Completing required payroll reporting (Multiple Worksite Reports, annual audits, )
- Maintain accurate payroll documentation for grant reimbursements and year-end auditing purposes
- Assist in month-end closings by completing account reconciliations along with composing and keying journal entries
- Review all invoices for appropriate documentation and approval for rigorous grant reporting prior to payment
- Code and key invoices into accounting software
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, and maintain monthly spreadsheets and schedules of accounts
- Provide copies of billable invoices to the Grant Accounting Specialist
- Prepare weekly payment lists (Aged AP) to review for payment processing
- Process weekly system check runs and check requests
- Maintain accurate files and documentation according to agency policy
- Prepare spreadsheets for review and comparisons for cost-effectiveness
- Maintain Vendor/Agency Relations through verbal and electronic interaction
- Reconcile vendor statements, research, and correct discrepancies
- Assist with Annual Budgets and Year End Audits
- Maintain manual spreadsheets for reconciliations and auditing purposes
- Other duties as assigned related to the daily finances of the organization
Specific Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of accounts payable/general ledger systems and procedure
- Strong Microsoft Excel Experience
- Proficient in Math
- Experience with Kronos/UKG, a plus
- Knowledge of general financial accounting, non-profit accounting and HUD reporting preferred
- Team Oriented
- Possess strong organizational, verbal, and written skills
- Must be attentive to detail, reliable, and able to follow standard filing procedures
- Must be able to work independently and have strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work with employees and vendors in a professional manner
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Non-Profit accounting software experience a plus
- Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field. Bachelor’s preferred
- A combination of education, training, and experience that results in a demonstrated efficiency in performing the work may be substituted for a degree.
- 2-5 years of experience in Accounting preferred
- Successfully pass any required pre-employment background and drug screening
