ABOUT THE ROLE
The Physical Education Teacher reports to the Head of School and is responsible for leading their own instruction in a self-contained classroom. The Physical Education teacher sees every student in the school through the course of their classes throughout the day. Our teachers are the backbone of the education provided at Mighty Oak Academy. We have high expectations for both our educators and our students, we believe our students deserve better and we seek educators that are willing to invest in them. Mighty Oak Academy believes in the importance of physical exercise and sports in not only cognitive development but also as a tool in assisting with healing of trauma. The Physical Education teacher will also need to be able to deeply integrate physical health and socio emotional learning in our classrooms daily. This role is part time as we do not have P.E. classes on Fridays. Fridays at Mighty Oak Academy are half day for students. This semester the hours for this role are 10am - 2:30pm Monday - Thursday.

We are looking for educators that are willing to make a change in our neighborhood where our children deserve better. Our teaching positions include:
- 7 weeks of breaks throughout the school year for teacher well being
- Schedule for this position is Monday – Thursday 10:00am - 2:30pm
- Full 30-minute no duty lunch break
- Staff to support the needs of the teachers.
- Behavior interventionist team to assist with social emotional interventions, classroom disruptions and behavior support coaching for educators.
- Freedom to teach to students needs and differentiate instruction, not stuck with curriculum that doesn’t work for your students.
- No more than 12 students per classroom.

RESPONSIBLIITES
- Create, write, and teach lesson plans that are skill level appropriate and meet the needs of each student in the class.
- Deliver instruction in large group, small group, and individualized formats.
- Regularly assess students in both qualitative and quantitative assessments, using that data to tailor instruction and be responsive to student’s needs.
- Collaboration with other teachers to practice skills and jointly problem solve.
- Partner with instructional support team, behavioral support team and other related service providers to provide personalized supports for students with identified needs.
- Active participation in the ongoing design and implementation of the MOA model through research, curriculum collaboration, engagement with school and organizational leadership, and focused professional development
- Facilitate classes daily with students at different levels of learning abilities.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
- Creatively use lessons to reach students where they are and ensure understanding of the material.
- Create a safe and enjoyable educational environment that encompasses project-based learning.
- Use the school’s social emotional learning techniques for encouraging the social emotional development of children that builds a healthy, safe, loving school environment.
- Build a classroom environment that is full of love and joy and helps instill in students an excitement about learning.
- Manage classrooms effectively so that children feel loved, safe and want to learn.
- Participate in school identified professional development program.
- Meet one-on-one with students to improve performance and address behavioral issues.
- Collaborate with educators, behavior interventionist and parent wellness coaches to support students’ social emotional learning and development while in physical education class.
- Maintains all athletic equipment and supplies.
- Participate on the teaching team by teaching courses as requested by the head of school.
- Work onsite daily, with students.
- Work with school team to develop and implement school vision and goals.
- Other duties as assigned.

- You are willing to think outside the box when it comes to education, you understand that education should not be a one size fits all system and get excited about differentiating instruction in small classrooms so students can excel at their own pace.

- You are a people person that is gifted in communication, able to adjust communication styles to meet the needs of different students.
- You agree that all learning is social, and behavior is a form of communication that should sought to be understood and not suppressed or just disciplined into conforming to a structure that works for adults but not kids.
- You are adaptable to change, understanding that shifting course in the middle of instruction or the day or the semester might be needed when something isn’t working.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. We are in an old three-story building with no elevator. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
COMPENSATION PHILOSOPHY
Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience. We have structured our compensation to provide the most level of flexibility as well as appreciation for the work educators perform. All our positions are hourly. Our school year for staff starts at the beginning of August and goes through early June. We build planning and break times into the daily schedule, and staff are scheduled to work 8 hours a day 5 days a week. Staff can accrue up to 15 days PTO throughout the year. We also offer a set number of holidays throughout the year; these do not include winter break and spring break. If staff wish to be paid over non holiday breaks when school is closed, they can take PTO. We strive to provide a highly competitive hourly wage which we feel, when paired with the flexibility of being hourly along with PTO, holiday pay, and health care provide a generous compensation package.
Starting hourly rates for this role are based on qualifications and experience on the following scale:
· Bachelors Degree - no teaching certification $24
· Bachelors Degree - teaching certification $26
· Bachelors Degree - Teaching certification minimum 5 years experience $28
· Masters Degree - teaching certification $30
· Masters Degree - Teaching Certification minimum 5 years experience $32
