Duties and Responsibilities
1. Direct supervision, care, and training of all residents, ensuring any needed provisions are made for residents with disabilities, including visual or auditory deficits.
2. Assisting residents in attending to their personal care and hygiene, as needed.
3. Supervising the self-administration of resident medications, per the physician’s orders.
4. Assuring the care and supervision of residents in any emergency by utilizing emergency measures, such as calling 911, the police, or fire department, or other agencies as needed.
5. Proper preparation, handling, and serving of meals.
6. Carrying out daily activities and programs as designed by the administrator.
7. Proper attention to the cleaning and laundry needs of the facility.
8. The provision of services to the residents required or identified by their needs and services plans and Individual Program Plans (IPPs).
9. Maintaining daily written documentation and records, including signatures.
10. Be present on site and able to perform duties during all scheduled hours.
11. Complete a minimum number of approved training hours every twelve (12) months following their date of hire.
12. Complete the Direct Support Professional (DSP) Part I one (1) year after date of hire, and DSP Part II two (2) years after date of hire.
13. Must be fluent in English.
14. Complete other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the administrator or licensee.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Must be at least 18 years old, as verified by a current driver’s license or other government issued photo ID.
2. Must have training, knowledge, and experience of the requirements for providing the type of care, training, and supervision needed by residents with developmental disabilities or persons with similar needs, including the elderly and mentally disabled.
3. Must be able to communicate effectively with staff and residents.
4. Must have knowledge of and ability to comply with applicable laws and regulations.
5. Must be in good health and be physically, mental, and occupationally capable of performing assigned tasks, verified by a health screening, including a test for tuberculosis.
6. Must have completed and passed an adult first aid class.
7. Must complete an employment application containing the following information: Full Legal Name, Driver’s License Number (if applicable), Current Address and Phone Number, Documentation of Education, Training and/or Experience, (if applicable).
8. Must submit fingerprints and pass a criminal record clearance before employment begins.
Chain of Authority
DSPs shall be supervised by the administrator.
