REPORTS TO: Director of Student and Academic Support
JOB GOAL: To provide support services to students, staff, and parents and work with members of the Academic Program to intervene effectively in both crisis and daily situations
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide support services to students to enable them to reach their full academic and social potential.
- Create and implement behavior plans for students.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and parents.
- Provide counseling, assessments, diagnostics, and report writing.
- Consult with other professional staff and outside agencies and other organizations
- Make referrals to appropriate LCCPS staff and consultants, and outside agencies as needed
- Complete home visits and assessments, as assigned
- Serve as a member of the Student Support Team, the Family Support Team and other school based teams
- Counsel students and/or families individually, or in groups
- Complete written clinical and non-clinical reports, as may be required by LCCPS, Federal, State, or local agencies
- Interview students and families
- Make oral presentations of assessments, diagnostics, home visits, and observations
- Attend meetings in school buildings, other public buildings, and private residences
- Ensure the security and maintenance of clinical confidentiality at all times
- Engage the surrounding community in educational school events, i.e., parenting support workshops and other training for faculty, students, parents and families
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters degree in a field of social services
- MA DESE certification required
- Experience providing the service required by this position
- Knowledge of appropriate counseling procedures
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state statutes dealing with privacy, care and protection abuse
- Ability to diagnose emotional, personal, and social issues
- Ability to make referrals to appropriate staff members and other agencies and organizations
- Bilingual (Khmer, Spanish, Portuguese) candidates are preferred.
