At a Glance! LCC’s Instructional Designer will foster a climate of inclusive learning and ongoing skill development as part of the Learning Commons. This position consults with faculty to design and continuously improve high quality learning environments based on research-informed adult learning theories and instructional design practices while promoting the effective use of technology in teaching and learning. Additionally, LCC’s Instructional Designer will regularly provide relevant, innovative professional development to both faculty and staff to meet the college’s evolving needs. We are looking for someone who has exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, prides themself in providing high quality customer service and creating an inclusive and welcoming environment, and is keen at managing multiple and varying tasks with competing deadlines. The Instructional Designer must have strong technology skills and be highly proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft and Google products, learning management systems, and lecture capture software.

About the Team! The Learning Commons at LCC fosters a team-based approach where the Instructional Designer will contribute to the direction of the department, lead projects, think creatively, and solve problems. At LCC, the Learning Commons is part of a model in which eLearning, Tutoring, and Library services work together to serve our community in a single, collaborative space; as part of this team, our instructional designer will also provide outstanding customer service and support.

The Instructional Designer position is 40 hours per week. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. This position is hybrid - there’s some on campus presence required and the opportunity to work remotely up to two days per week. This position reports to the Dean of Instruction and Learning Resources.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities

  • Promote use of eLearning tools and methodologies that incorporate nationally recognized best practices (such as Quality Matters, TILT, or UDL).
  • Support faculty assessment of student learning outcomes, facilitating the use of data to improve mastery of learning and student retention and completion.
  • Collaborate with faculty on solutions-oriented course design in all modalities to provide equity-focused and evidence-based support in creating course assessments, evaluations, and active learning experiences.
  • Assist faculty to ensure instructional materials across modalities comply with accessibility standards.
  • Ensure that the College is fulfilling the federal regular and substantive interaction requirement for online classes.
  • Learn, use, and teach best practices of Generative AI in teaching and learning.
  • Design, develop, and deliver professional development in a range of modalities to support the use of creative, innovative, and inclusive pedagogy and technology for student engagement and success.
  • Collaborate on projects with faculty, instructional divisions, academic support services, or other departments.
  • Help faculty assess course content and infuse diverse and inclusive materials, resources, and learning activities to meet those needs.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university. A degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or Instructional Design preferred.
  • One year higher education or K-12 teaching experience. Or one year as an Instructional Designer.
  • Experience with instructional design and curriculum development incorporating technologies across all modalities of instruction.
  • Knowledge of current eLearning tools and Instructional Design practices such as Quality Matters, UDL and TILT.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships and collaborate in a diverse environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree related to Education, Library Science, Curriculum and Instruction, or Instructional Design from an accredited college/university.
  • Three years higher education or K-12 teaching experience. Or three years working as an Instructional Designer.
  • Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas.

Conditions of Employment
