Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Reading Specialist to support literacy instruction in Lower and Middle School. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in literacy education, expertise in structured literacy approaches, and a passion for helping students develop strong reading skills. This specialist will implement Wilson Fundations (PreK-3rd grade), support guided reading in Lower School, and provide Tier 2 interventions for students with dyslexia and reading difficulties. A commitment to integrating Biblical principles into literacy instruction and fostering a love for reading is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Targeted Literacy Intervention & Support
- Provide Tier 2 reading interventions using Wilson Fundations and other structured literacy approaches.
- Conduct small group, pull-out intervention sessions for struggling readers.
- Assess student progress using tools like DIBELS, Acadience, and running records.
- Collaborate with teachers and administration to adjust interventions as needed.
Guided Reading & Classroom Support
- Lead Wilson Fundations implementation (PreK-3rd grade).
- Support teachers in guided reading instruction and leveled text selection.
- Model effective phonics, fluency, and comprehension strategies in small group settings.
- Maintain a leveled book library and literacy resources.
Teacher Coaching & Professional Development
- Coach teachers in implementing structured literacy strategies aligned with the Science of Reading.
- Provide training on dyslexia awareness, phonics instruction, and guided reading best practices.
- Assist in data-driven literacy instruction and differentiated learning strategies.
Program Leadership & Parent Engagement
- Oversee Wilson Fundations program and guided reading in Lower School.
- Track student progress and maintain detailed intervention records.
- Communicate with parents about student progress and home literacy strategies.
- Host parent workshops on literacy development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, or Reading (Master’s preferred).
- Reading Specialist certification and Wilson Fundations training (required).
- Experience in guided reading, literacy intervention, and structured literacy approaches.
- Strong knowledge of the Science of Reading and evidence-based practices.
- Proficiency in literacy assessments and instructional technology.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to move around the classroom and school campus
- Capable of using computers and other educational technology
