What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Safety Officer position at Loyola Academy?
- Provide frontline security and direction to visitors and guests.
- Require all visitors and guests to show photo I.D., sign in, and wear visitor’s pass.
- Hold visitors with a scheduled meeting until a Loyola employee can escort them to their meeting place.
- Direct visitors to the proper location for a scheduled meeting.
- Maintain visual surveillance of internal and external property.
- Notify the Dean of Students in the event of unusual or threatening situations.
- Students respect themselves and others.
- Facilities provide a safe environment for students and the adult community.
- Environment provides maximum opportunity for teaching and learning.
- Students are complying with all rules and regulations as outlined in the Student Handbook.
- Check in students on the day of detention.
- Monitor and supervise students during detention.
- Maintain traffic flow into and out of Loyola Academy campus.
- Direct traffic on Laramie Ave to maintain traffic flow.
- Provide safe passage of students across Laramie Avenue.
- Provide safe passage of students from building into the parking lot.
- Monitor, supervise and walk through hallways to supervise students.
- Clear students from hallways when necessary.
- Check all exterior doors to guarantee they are locked.
- Walk through bathrooms and other unsupervised areas.
- Search lockers for contraband as necessary.
- Report any unsafe building conditions to Deans and/or Maintenance Dept.
- Deliver messages from the Dean's Office to students and faculty members as needed.
- Respond to radio calls from Deans to retrieve students when necessary.
- Accompany students to the Dean’s Office when requested.
- Assist in the search of student belongings when necessary.
- Check cars for parking permits.
- Issue tickets when violations occur.
- Observe and monitor anomalies in the parking lot.
- Participate in searching cars when requested by Deans.
- Aid visitors in locating available parking spots.
- Monitor alternative parking lots.
- Assist with clearing and securing the building in evacuation situations.
- Directing ambulances to the proper locations when necessary.
- Notify Manager of Safety and Security or the Dean of Students in the event of threatening situations
- Bachelors Degree preferred, High School diploma required
- Minimum 1 year of security experience required
- Must possess CPR/AED/First Aid certification or be able to obtain within 90 days of employment
- Commitment to the principles of Jesuit education as set forth in Loyola Academy's mission statement and the Profile of the Jesuit High School Graduate at Graduation; and
- Demonstrated ability to engage others in difficult conversations and manage conflict

ROLE OF THE SAFETY OFFICER
Loyola Academy’s School Safety Officers are responsible for being present in the hallways and entryways and implementing best practices in ensuring the safety and security of all students, faculty, staff and property. School Safety Officers maintain a safe environment in the school building by ensuring all entrances are secured, all student-focused areas are proctored, and all areas of the building are locked.
