Title: Director of Athletics

Status: 12-Month, Full-Time

Department: Athletics

Reporting to: President

Compensation: $125-140K

Loyola Blakefield is a Catholic, Jesuit, independent school for boys in grades 6 – 12. Loyola is inspired by the life and instruction of St. Ignatius Loyola and the Society of Jesus. Profile:

Loyola Blakefield seeks a dynamic and mission-driven Director of Athletics. The Director will cultivate an organizational culture and structure that advances our mission while fostering competitive excellence across all athletic programs. The responsibilities of the Director of Athletics include, but are not limited to, the following areas:
 

Mission and Vision
Loyola Blakefield Athletics fulfills the mission, vision, and values of our school by forming leaders that serve with and for others, developing the mind, body, and spirit of our student-athletes, and building programs that foster a culture of champions—all for the greater glory of God. In this spirit, the Director will:

  • Clearly articulate the school’s athletic vision, programs, and expectations to all stakeholders.
  • Develop and sustain an athletics program that:
    • Embodies values of integrity, service, and justice, fostering a culture of faith and character.
    • Strives for excellence by competing at the highest level in each sport while upholding sportsmanship and humility.
    • Prioritizes nurturing student-athletes' holistic growth-spiritually, academically, physically, and socially-to empower them as leaders and lifelong learners.

Athletic Program Supervision and Leadership

  • Collaborate with school leadership to establish equitable and transparent processes for hiring, retaining, and transitioning coaches.
  • Oversee, mentor, and evaluate coaches on program management, student-athlete development, and effective coaching practices.
  • Ensure coaches are fully engaged in the school community and collaborate with colleagues in academics, admissions, and counseling.
  • Cultivate relationships with collegiate programs to enhance post-secondary opportunities for student-athletes.
  • Serve as a visible and engaged leader within the school and at school events.
  • Represent Loyola Blakefield at pertinent local, state and national conferences and workshops.

Managerial and Administrative Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Athletics Department staff and coordinate logistics for all athletic events.
  • Manage the department’s budget and resources with fiscal responsibility, optimizing facilities, equipment, and apparel to support program goals.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable government regulations and legal requirements as well as league and association rules and regulations.
  • Oversee the use of athletics facilities, including rentals and strategic partnerships.
  • Provide strategic review and guidance for athletics summer camp programs
  • Ensure collaboration between key campus departments, including Admissions, Development and Ignatian Mission & Identity, while also serving as an active member of the school’s Emergency Operations Team.

Qualifications and Considerations


  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Proven leadership experience in designing, managing, and sustaining vision-driven athletic programs.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • A deep commitment to Jesuit education and the mission and vision of Loyola Blakefield.
  • Strong interpersonal/conflict resolution skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse constituencies, including coaches, parents, students, and administrators.
  • Demonstrated experience working in an athletics office at the secondary or collegiate level, with a focus on program administration and operational management.
  • A track record of building and sustaining a positive, inclusive culture within athletic programs, fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and diversity.

Salary : $125,000 - $140,000
