Job Summary
The Director of Development, School of Law at Loyola University Chicago is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding Donors for Major and Planned Gifts to advance strategic priorities of the School & University and achieve goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Managing Director of Development, School of Law (SOL), the Director of Development, School of Law is responsible for personally qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and closing Major and Principal Gifts to the School from Alumni and Friends with a capacity of $100K - $5M. The Director will partner with the Dean of SOL and work closely with Faculty, Researchers, and Staff in the successful attainment of Loyola University Chicago (Loyola) priorities and campaign initiatives.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Development, School of Law, will:

  • Manage the total range of fundraising activities (Identification, Qualification, Cultivation, Solicitation, and Stewardship) of an assigned portfolio of Prospects and Donors including directly soliciting and managing the solicitation of Principal and Major Gift Prospects for the School of Law.
  • Make a defined number of visits and solicitations per year designed to move Prospects toward making a philanthropic commitment to the University.
  • Provide support to the Dean of the School of Law.
  • Write and edit correspondence, proposals, and reports to Prospective Donors and Major Gift Donors.
  • Prepare timely Contact Reports on meetings and interactions with Prospects and Donors.
  • Coordinate appointments and prepare any needed materials for meetings, visits or phone calls with Deans, the President, Alumni Volunteers, or other Senior Administrators, Alumni and Friend within Portfolio.
  • Work collaboratively to facilitate the Qualification, Cultivation, Solicitation, and Stewardship of Prospects.


Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Minimum qualifications includes a Bachelor's Degree, 3 - 5 years of experience in fundraising preferably in a Higher Education environment.

  • Bachelor's Degree. Master's Degree preferred.
  • 5 - 7 years' experience in fundraising preferably in a Higher Education environment is required.
  • Preference for demonstrated success in making and closing five and six figure Gift solicitations from individual Donors. Transferrable experience in sales will be given equal consideration.
  • Must have demonstrated, successful track record of Donor cultivation and solicitation.
  • Demonstration of 3 - 5 years of tenure and longevity at previous employers is required, a history of promotions within organizations is preferred.

Qualifications
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prior experience working with Staff and Volunteers.
  • The ability to manage complex relationships, and proven collaboration and teamwork skills in a diverse community to leverage activities, initiatives, and programs for multiple purposes.
  • Proficiency with Fundraising databases and technology.
  • Understanding of the "Moves Management" process or other proven relationship-management process/philosophies and ability to think and work strategically.
  • Willingness to work hours outside standard business hours (e.g., nights and weekends).
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of the team, establish priorities, and work collaboratively as a member of a diverse community.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and a positive attitude.
  • A proven commitment to diversity, the will to embrace diversity in all aspects of Development.
