What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Dean, College of Music and Media position at Loyola University - New Orleans?
The Assistant Dean is responsible for developing and enriching the student experience across the School of Music and Theatre Professions and the School of Communication and Design. They coordinate student administrative activities with the Dean, Associate Dean, Director of Student Services, Technical Coordinator, and school directors and report directly to the Dean.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work in tandem with the Associate Dean to develop and sustain a faculty/student advising model
- Provides leadership and oversight for undergraduate internship programs by working with the Associate Dean, the school directors, chairs, coordinators, and the Career Center
- Oversees the college’s study abroad offerings, maintains and disseminates a list of what’s available to students and faculty, works with the Center of International Education to create new opportunities for students and faculty
- Plans with the Director of Student Services, faculty, and appropriate campus stakeholders for student admission, progression, retention, and advisement activities related to the undergraduate and graduate programs, both incoming and continuing
- Assists in coordinating the college’s first-year experience, including both curricular and co-curricular elements
- Develop and implement strategies to improve student course evaluations
- Work closely with the Director of Student Services to create a monthly e-newsletter to educate faculty and staff about the latest student trends
- Coordinates directly with the Director of Student Services to enhance the student experience
- Mediates problems between students, faculty, and staff
- Plan and lead training meetings with students, faculty, students, and staff
- Membership in relevant professional organizations, attending pertinent conferences, and presenting lessons learned to the college
- Represent the college at campus and off-campus meetings
- Works with school directors and Admissions to facilitate scholarship disbursement within the College.
- Assist with planning, hosting, and evaluating CMM student events/activities
- Special projects, as defined and assigned by the Dean
- Other duties as assigned
- Minimum master’s degree in a relevant field. This could include but is not limited to fields such as education, administration, enrollment management, music, theatre, dance, or media production.
- Candidates must also have at least eight years of experience in college-level student services and support, demonstrating organizational skills, strong communication, data analysis, collaborative project management, time management, and conflict resolution.

- Provide strategic leadership for student services operations; develop and manage a comprehensive range of resources and experiences that support student success, health, and well-being
- Monitor student data and utilize technology to identify and lead proactive interventions; assist with reporting on student assessment, academic success, and learning outcomes.
- Partner with campus-wide student support offices, including advising and academic services, counseling, student affairs, enrollment management, and others
- Lead CMM student well-being efforts
- Manage and coordinate student-engagement events and activities such as Welcome Week, Convocation, and regular wellness-focused events.
- Support co-curricular initiatives for students, including student organizations.
- Assist with student-facing communications and messaging, collaborate with faculty mentors, and engage with concerned parents
- Be confident and comfortable making presentations in front of students, parents, faculty, and staff
- An advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Zoom, and other necessary technologies
- An innovative and measurable approach to programming and evaluation
Preferred Qualifications
- A terminal degree in a related field. This is a staff position and does not include teaching or faculty status.
- A background in and/or knowledge of the performing arts is preferred.
