What are the responsibilities and job description for the Professor of Practice in Jazz Studies - College of Music and Media position at Loyola University - New Orleans?
Loyola University has one of the oldest and largest jazz programs in New Orleans. The School of Music and Theatre Professions (SMTP) offers a BM in jazz studies and also degrees in Music Business, Education and Therapy with an emphasis in jazz. There are 60 majors, minors and emphasis students in the program. The area’s 14 adjunct faculty are all active performers and are drawn from New Orleans’ finest musicians. The program offers 3 large ensembles and 6 combos plus a guitar ensemble, vocal jazz ensemble, and afro cuban percussion ensemble. Additionally, SMTP has a strong music business and popular/commercial offerings. New Orleans, as well as being the birthplace of jazz, also has a very active musical community and professional jazz scene. The position is a Professor of Practice in Jazz Studies with duties listed as follows;

- Jazz Improvisation levels I-VI
- Jazz Arranging and Composition courses
- Jazz Combos and Large Ensembles
Additional duties to potentially include:
- Academic advising undergraduate students in Jazz Studies degree
- Working with coordinator to further develop Jazz Studies degree
- Assistance in coordination and execution of Loyola Jazz Ensemble Festival
- Assistance in coordination and execution of Loyola Summer Jazz Camp
- Participating in recruitment and retention activities
- Other duties as assigned, given area expertise
