What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Professor, Department of Counseling position at Loyola University - New Orleans?
Loyola University New Orleans Department of Counseling is inviting applications for a tenure- track assistant professor position beginning in the fall of 2024. The Loyola Counseling Department is CACREP accredited in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling. The Faculty are interested in developing a CACREP accredited Addictions Counseling program and the candidate will spearhead this effort with the support of the department faculty.

Most importantly, students learn who they are. We help them become the best version of themselves while preparing them for a career to help others.

- Lead the development of a CACREP accredited Addictions Counseling program
- Teach master’s level graduate courses in a CACREP-approved Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program (a 3-3 load), including clinical courses. (Summer teaching is also possible for extra pay.)
- Engage in scholarly activity including conducting research and writing for publication in the area of clinical mental health counseling and/or addiction counseling
- Sustained participation in professional activities, scholarly activities, and service to the profession
- Contribute to student growth through supervising and advising students
- Engage in service activities for the university, community, and profession.
- Assist with program recruitment and retention
- Other duties as assigned
- A doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program is required.
- An evolving research agenda evident through journal publications, conference presentations, and/or other forms of scholarly writing.
- Licensed as a Professional Counselor in Louisiana or eligible to be Licensed as a Professional Counselor in Louisiana.
- Relevant experience in the field of Mental Health Counseling and/or Addictions.
- Actively identify with the counseling profession through sustained memberships in counseling organizations
- Maintain certifications and/or licenses pertinent to the counseling specialty area(s)
- Experience teaching Addictions and Multicultural Counseling
- Experience teaching additional courses such as Research Methods, Assessment, Psychopathology, Diagnosis, and Practicum/Internship.
- Has evidence of effective teaching and mentoring with counseling graduate students
- Has experience working with a diverse faculty and student body.
