The Dean of City College appoints the Associate Dean (AD), with the approval of the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. The City College AD is responsible for overseeing the academic progress and success of students, ensuring the effective implementation of the College’s online degree programs. This role involves supervising academic advising and coaching, student records maintenance, and transfer credit evaluations. The City College AD also plays a key role in resolving students’ academic concerns, administering the grade appeal process, and guiding faculty on curriculum implementation and advising. Additionally, they prepare the College’s section of the University Bulletin, participate in the Associate Dean’s Council, and act on behalf of the Dean when necessary. Their leadership ensures the integrity and excellence of the College’s academic programs and student success initiatives.
The AD collaborates with City College leadership in overseeing the business operations for all Loyola Online programs. In particular, the AD oversees the Loyola Online retention strategies executed by the Online Student Success Office. In addition, the AD collaborates with leadership and university stakeholders in developing and implementing institutional policies for all online programs.
In collaboration with the Dean, the AD also develops and coordinates all initiatives related to Loyola’s Intersessions.
Oversees the academic progress of the students in the College.
Carries out academic actions, including dean's list, probation, exclusions, readmission, academic forgiveness, academic amnesty, and similar matters.
Oversees the implementation of all facets of the College degree programs.
Reviews and attempts to resolve students' academic problems, including clarification of requirements, waivers, substitutions, exceptions, and complaints.
- Supervises the responsibilities of the Online Student Success team, including graduation audits and certifications.
- Supervises transfer evaluations on the college level (i.e., "translation" of credits into all undergraduate online programs).
- Supervises curriculum development in the College.
- Oversees all student academic advising and orientation programs for the College.
- Conducts Faculty programs on advising and implementation of degree programs and conducts an orientation for new Faculty.
- Prepares the College portion of the University Bulletin.
- Serves as administrator for grade appeal and academic dishonesty cases for the college.
- Maintains his/her expertise as a faculty by being as actively involved in teaching functions as duties permit.
- Serves on the Associate Dean's Council and other college and university committees.
- Performs additional duties requested by the Dean and acts for the Dean in any matters requiring a decision when the Dean is unavailable for such action.
- Is responsible for leading and monitoring the approval of all City College Courses and Curriculum (both undergraduate and graduate) proposals through university processes in a timely manner.
- Collaborates with university leadership in developing and implementing institutional policies for all online programs.
- Acts as liaison between Loyola Online students and their respective colleges.
- In collaboration with the Dean, develops and coordinates initiatives related to Loyola’s Intersessions (May Term, Summer Session, J-term).
- Collaborates with the City College leadership team in developing institutional partnerships.
Periodic Evaluation of the Associate Dean
The City College AD is reviewed annually by the Dean and every three years by the Faculty.

Doctorate required. The degree must be completed by the time of appointment.
At least three years' experience in a role responsible for leadership and oversight of educational programming or related experience.
At least three years' teaching in a college or university setting.
A demonstrated ability or potential to lead online student retention initiatives.
Expertise in areas such as adult education, online education, higher education administration, student success and retention, or related fields preferred.
A commitment to innovative teaching, scholarship, and community engagement
Supervisory experience of instructional staff is preferred.
Other Preferences for Consideration
Qualifications equivalent to the rank of Associate Professor are preferred.
