The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting and delivering on department initiatives. The Senior Accountant performs duties related to a variety of accounting functions and providing supervision to the department under the guidance and direction of the Controller.

- Review and approve unrestricted requisitions for spend including check requests and credit cards.
- Obtain proper support and verification for processing electronic transfers to vendors.
- Reconcile sub-ledger and general ledger account balances. Prepare monthly balance sheet account and income statement account reconciliations.
- Prepare financial statements and support month-end and year-end close. Assemble financial data and supporting analysis for Independent Audit to assist in timely completion.
- Assessing internal controls, including risk assessments, reviews of risk areas and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Maintaining and reconciling fixed asset schedules.
- Analyzing financial information, forecasting and summarizing financial data to support ongoing budget variance reporting and other analyses.
- Working knowledge of tax laws (sales and use tax/1099-NEC/990/990-T/1098-T) to prepare monthly and annual taxation requirements.
- Identify opportunities and recommend methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance (e.g., procedure optimization). Manage or assist in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
- Train/develop, supervise and review accounting staff to ensure department initiatives can be met and/or are being met while creating opportunities for individual staff to grow professionally with the University.
- Provide accounting support for ad-hoc projects.
- Actively participate in ad-hoc projects to promote system security and internal controls.
- Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in an advanced accounting position
- Minimum of two (2) years demonstrated supervisory experience is required.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic fiscal management and analysis is preferred.
- Active CPA designation is required.
- Understanding of accounting principles (GAAP, FASB) specific to nonprofit organizations.

- Must be computer literate with the capability of performing at an intermediate or above level with Microsoft Office Suite of products (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Must be computer literate with or have the ability to learn quickly Enterprise Resource Planning software. Experience with Colleague or similar ERP system preferred.
- May require overtime work for certain times during the year or on an as-needed basis.
- May require evening and weekend work.
