Duties and Responsibilities

The Senior Associate Director is the primary leadership role at the Health Science Campus, and oversees all aspects of federal and institutional aid for students in the Stritch School of Medicine, Parkinson School of Health Sciences and Public Health, Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, including ABSN, and other graduate and professional students at Loyola's Health Science Campus. Specifically, the Senior Associate Director provides leadership for the delivery of student financial services and for financial aid compliance for all students at the Health Science campus. This is done with strict compliance with all state and federal regulations. The position reports to the Assistant Vice President and Director of Financial Aid.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

1. Works with the appropriate constituencies, assists in the development of a scholarship strategy that attracts a diverse and qualified medical student population.

2. Develops and disseminates financial aid reports that help in strategic decision making.

3. Assists medical, graduate, professional, and nursing students in all aspects of financing a Loyola University Chicago.

4. Manages award notifications / tracking letter delivery to students, scholarship fund loading into PeopleSoft, setting student financial aid budgets, tracking documents, budget revisions, etc.

5. Advises students, develops financial aid award packages and monitors client application status

6. Available for walk-in and phone-in clients, in support of the client service operation.

7. Provides counseling and advising to students and their families on money and debt management; provides counseling and advising regarding federal, institution and private loan repayment programs.

8. Supports the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and Parkinson School of Public Health and others through presentations.

9. Collaborates with SSOM Admissions Office with the awarding of SSOM scholarship and awards to prospective students.

10. Collaborates closely with SSOM Student Affairs, Development and Finance offices with the awarding of SSOM scholarships and awards.

11. Participates in planning and implementation of annual academic programs and workshops such as first, second, and third year orientation programs, Family Weekend, graduation weekend activities, admissions Second Visit Program and workshops on procedures, etc.

12. Supports the process to identify student nominees for selective awards, scholarships and outside recognition; participates in award committee work and implementing honors programs annually.

13. Develops and advises on office budgetary needs and expenses.

14. Coordinates the timely submission of all federal, state, university, and private agency financial aid reports.

15. Participates in SSOM, HSD, LUC and LUMC committees as required.

16. Responsible for the awarding of $5M in endowed, gift, and other institution aid funds to new and current students on an annual and term basis.

17. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Education and / or Work Experience

  • Master's degree in counseling, education, or student services or its equivalent in experience preferred.

  • Master's degree in counseling, education, or student services or its equivalent in experience preferred.
  • 10 years of financial aid experience with a focus on graduate and medical student awarding
  • Must have demonstrated professional progression within the financial aid field
  • Must be highly motivated, flexible, adaptable and service-oriented, with strong collaborative skills for team work and consensus building among staff, faculty and students.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a face-paced, ever changing daily environment and remain goal oriented.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills and strong presentation skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to set priorities, multi-task, and learn and innovate as needs of university and higher education evolve.
  • Strong organizational skills are essential.
